Prospect parkrun #77 – Mudfest and Milestones

Run report by Andrea ELLIOTT

144 daring souls rose to the challenge of the Prospect parkrun mudfest, including some of the 26 hi-viz heroes and helpers. The recent heavy rains saw some neighbouring parkruns cancel but Prospect prevailed; albeit at a less blistering pace this week, with only 4 runners completing the course in sub-21.

Being the final Saturday before Christmas, many parkrunners sported festive Santa suits, Elf suits and running gear. (Fingers crossed they all come clean for the special parkrun on Christmas Day!)

Prospect parkrun welcomed 18 new runners took to the course, 7 of which made their parkrun debut - well done to you all!

51 registered club runners, hailing from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire - including all three Reading running clubs; Reading Joggers, Reading Roadrunners and Reading AC - came for their Saturday morning constitution.

Hi-viz heroes at Prospect were supportive as ever, and they didn't let their cold, sodden feet dampen their spirits as they encouraged, clapped and cheered runners on.

The VI guide did an absolute sterling job helping the VI runner through the slippery turns and knee buckling mudslides, which clearly tested all runners this week.

However, Mike Reed defied all odds and scored a new personal best of 24:27 AND hit his 50th parkrun Milestone. Well done Mike!

Milestones are a great excuse to celebrate post-run (and eat cake) with the parkrun community. If you are hitting official numbers be sure to let the Run Director know or contact Prospect parkrun before your big day.

Dont forget we are back on Christmas Day for a Christmas Special parkrun at 9:00 am.  Do dress up in festive colours.
