What a windy morning it was today down on the riverside! I laid awake in the early hours of the morning listening to the wind trying to rip my roof off and wondering how many trees I would have to remove from the course when I did the check, or at the very worst I may have to cancel. To my surprise there was almost an element of calmness along the course route, only having to kick the odd branch out of the way with help from Jennifer, that was until we got half way along the back of the Spetchells and we were almost knocked off our feet with the wind, who knew it was hiding around the bend! That should wake you all up I thought, certainly did us!
We saw 194 of you this morning run, jog and walk around the course, 27 of you were first timers and 20 recorded new Personal Bests (so maybe the wind had relented around the back of the spetchells). Representatives of 19 different clubs also took part, thank you all for visiting us and hope to see you all again soon.
Can I politely ask you if you are only going to do 1 lap of the course NOT to come through the finish funnel, this really makes processing the results a challenge! We don’t want to deter you from doing 1 lap or the sprint finish, however please do not go through the finish area, this also applies to people who have already completed their run and go back to cheer on their friends, just move to the side and let them finish triumphantly and you can meet them at the end of the funnel area.
We had a visitor today from Tring Running Club in Hertfordshire, we hope you enjoyed our course.
One of our volunteers also had a birthday today, STEVE BRADY – a big birthday shout out to you (see you thought I had forgotten!). You will have passed him doing his little dance routine at Haydn’s disco corner, our stalwart trio of merry men.
