Prudhoe Riverside parkrun #164 – 18/01/20

Today Prudhoe Riverside welcomed a takeover by Red Kite Runners, they officially get together on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30pm meeting at Swalwell Juniors Football Club so if you are local then pop along to see them.  It was lovely to have you all and hope that you enjoyed your morning with us.

It was a tad cold and our volunteers were soon doing the dance of the frozen volunteer around the cones in the funnel area – would make good morris dancers!

However the cold snap did not deter 185 of you who ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 26 were first timers and 28 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 21 different clubs took part, we hope to see you all again soon.

We had a birthday boy this morning too and only his second parkrun, thankfully he remembered to stop running and hand his token in this time…….happy birthday Jason Seymour!

We also had a visitor from Wreake Runners in Thurmaston (Leicester) – We have ways of finding our visitors even when you don’t shout out when I ask if we have any guests, Gavin Speed – your surname didn’t let you down as you bagged yourself a nice PB too, well done!

I know I waffle on about ‘funnel duckers’ (I do have to pronounce that ever so carefully) however this morning you were all so well behaved and we had no incidents what so ever! Thank you so much, makes my life so much easier when processing the results.

I just love volunteering – I must do getting up earlier on a weekend than I do during the week! It’s worth it to see so many of you enjoying our parkrun, getting out there and just doing it, and all our lovely volunteers who brave the cold every weekend to make parkrun happen, we really couldn’t do it without you so thank you everyone.

This week’s event was made possible by 24 volunteers:

Louise WILKINSON • Richard WEYMES • Janette ROWLAND • Tony PRINCE • Paul GRIFFIN • David Eric LEDGERWOOD • Jane MORTON • Danni WILSON • Danielle ROBERTSON • Ruth STOKES • Jo PAGE • Judith FRIEL • Morgan SPARKE • Jo MOODY • Haydn WEYMES • Janine CALKIN • Nicola MACLEAN • Gillian TAIT • Paul TAIT • Sharon COLE • Marianne DODDS • Rachel MERRIX • Joseph GREEN • Kelly BOWMAN

Prudhoe Riverside parkrun #163 – 11/01/20

What a windy morning it was today down on the riverside! I laid awake in the early hours of the morning listening to the wind trying to rip my roof off and wondering how many trees I would have to remove from the course when I did the check, or at the very worst I may have to cancel.  To my surprise there was almost an element of calmness along the course route, only having to kick the odd branch out of the way with help from Jennifer, that was until we got half way along the back of the Spetchells and we were almost knocked off our feet with the wind, who knew it was hiding around the bend! That should wake you all up I thought, certainly did us!

We saw 194 of you this morning run, jog and walk around the course, 27 of you were first timers and 20 recorded new Personal Bests (so maybe the wind had relented around the back of the spetchells). Representatives of 19 different clubs also took part, thank you all for visiting us and hope to see you all again soon.

Can I politely ask you if you are only going to do 1 lap of the course NOT to come through the finish funnel, this really makes processing the results a challenge! We don’t want to deter you from doing 1 lap or the sprint finish, however please do not go through the finish area, this also applies to people who have already completed their run and go back to cheer on their friends, just move to the side and let them finish triumphantly and you can meet them at the end of the funnel area.

We had a visitor today from Tring Running Club in Hertfordshire, we hope you enjoyed our course.

One of our volunteers also had a birthday today, STEVE BRADY – a big birthday shout out to you (see you thought I had forgotten!). You will have passed him doing his little dance routine at Haydn’s disco corner, our stalwart trio of merry men.

This week’s event was made possible by 19 volunteers

Joanne LUCKING • Richard WEYMES • Philip HINDMARSH • Helene WILSON • Paul RAFFERTY • Ian HARMAN • Karen PLUNKETT • Helen BOADEN • Steven BRADY • Haydn WEYMES • Jennifer BURN • Jayne CUSKERN • Billy MAITLAND • Nicola MACLEAN • Pam RAFFERTY • Sharon CARR • Gary MARTIN • Joseph GREEN • Donna BRENNAN

Thank you for your support as always and don’t forget should you wish to join their ranks, please send a message with your barcode number to - prudhoeriversidehelpers@parkrun.com

Prudhoe Riverside parkrun 4th January 2020 Run Report

It was a bit chilly on the riverside this morning. Life was back to ‘normal,’ with not a reindeer, Santa, elf or unicorn in sight. The rain threatened but thankfully didn’t materialise, and a respectable 156 of you joined us for the second Prudhoe Riverside parkrun of the year. 35 of you were first timers, including a posse from Elvet Striders, with ten of you completing your first ever parkrun, and 15 recording new Personal Bests. Well done all of you! Representatives of 25 different clubs took part, including visitors from Airdrie, Kendal, Keighley, Liverpool Uni, and Cornwall.

Today’s event was made possible by 28 wonderful volunteers. Run Director Helen mentioned in her pre-run brief that it would be great if everyone made volunteering one of their New Year’s resolutions. If you’ve not volunteered before, don’t worry – full training will be given and you can usually choose what you’d like to do. Contact us (please include your name, barcode number, preferred role and which Saturday you’d like to volunteer) at prudhoeriverside@parkrun.com

Prudhoe Riverside parkrun 28th December 2019 Run Report

Here we are at the time of year between Christmas and New Year which, for many people, loses any linear meaning. What day is it? Should you be at work? Why aren’t the kids at school? Where did all this food come from? Is it chocolate for breakfast again? Thankfully parkrun offers a beacon of stability in this sea of chaos, it MUST be Saturday, right? Right! And it was this morning I chose to get my 50th parkrun in before a new decade began. It sadly wasn’t the the new PB I was after, but the amazing chocolate and banana cake made by Event Director Holly, made up for that.
One parkrunner who DID get a PB on their 50th today was Ed Patterson, and he and I joined in with the other 187(!!) who joined in with this mornings event. There were 25 first timers at Prudhoe, including First Finisher Owain, 7 of which were parkrun debutants. 20 PBs were achieved, and we had visitors from Shropshire, Hertfordshire, Rugby, and a contingency from Ealing Eagles Running Club. I also thought I heard Nottingham(?). Well done to all of you, and we hope those tourists and first timers will come back and see us again. Of course, the whole thing is impossible without this bunch of absolute legends, our volunteers!

Harry MATTHEWS • Joanne LUCKING • Richard WEYMES • Mel REED • Paul RAFFERTY • Seamus KELLEHER • Holly KELLEHER • Gary WALSH • Tony BROWN • Aoife KELLEHER • Molly PAGE • Karen PAGE • Haydn WEYMES • Jill HARLAND • Claire DAVIES • Sandra DUIM • Meghan NAPIER • Jane ROBINSON • Jordan REED • Beth DAVIES • Kirk PALMER • Simon HEAL • Sharon CARR • Joseph GREEN

Want to see your own name up there? Of course you do! Just email prudhoeriversidehelpers@parkrun.com with your barcode number and offer of help. You can check the roster for where we need help here - https://www.parkrun.org.uk/prudhoeriverside/futureroster/. Alternatively, keep an eye out for out volunteer shout-outs on the facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/prudhoeriversideparkrun/
Now, it does get a bit more confusing next week. We are on New Years Day, at half ten. Seriously. You can find a list of all NYD parkruns and their start times here - https://www.parkrun.org.uk/special-events/. Some start at nine, so it’s a day where you can ‘do the double’. For example, you could do Blackhill or Tyne Green at nine, then come to Prudhoe for half ten. Just...don’t forget your barcode. And we’ll be back to ‘normal’ on January 4th.
From all of us here at Prudhoe Riverside parkrun, we hope you thoroughly enjoyed however you celebrate Christmas, and we wish you a very happy New Year. Thank you to everyone who run regularly, who has visited and especially to our volunteers. We look forwards to seeing you achieve your milestones and PB’s in 2020.

Prudhoe Riverside parkrun 21 December 2019 Run Report

‘Twas the parkrun before Christmas and all through the riverside, not a creature was stirring, not even a … Actually, I’ll stop there, as a) I can’t think of a rhyme for riverside, and b) it was anything but quiet, with Haydn’s disco spot alive with Christmas tunes, as 139 of you ran, jogged and walked your way around Prudhoe riverside this morning.

We also felt it necessary to reassure other riverside park users that they’d not had one mulled wine too many last night, as a host of Santas, reindeer, and a trio of unicorns passed them on their way around The Spetchells at 9am.

10 of today’s festive field were first timers at Prudhoe, with 17 of you recording new Personal Bests. Representatives of 21 different clubs took part, including visitors from Edinburgh, Manchester, Dartford, Leeds and Liverpool Uni. Well done to Darren Collins and Lucy Taylor, who completed their first ever parkrun this morning, and congratulations to Paul Roxburgh who completed his 100th parkrun – not a bad way to kick off the holiday festivities!

Our volunteers were also in festive mood with hi-vis Santas and elves, and a stash of chocolates and mince pies to welcome our parkrunners over the line. Our thanks, as always, go to the wonderful:

Joanne LUCKING • Graham YATES • Richard WEYMES • Mel REED • Philip HINDMARSH • Jane MORTON • Maria HINDMARSH • Paul RAFFERTY • Paul ROBINSON • Helen BOADEN • Steven BRADY • Amanda FLETCHER • Kay FRENCH • Isaac ROXBURGH • Haydn WEYMES • Janine CALKIN • Kathryn DUTTON • Dawn ROXBURGH • Claire WIDMER • Simon HEAL • Gillian TAIT • Paul TAIT • Joseph GREEN • Paul SMITH

We’re not on Christmas day, but we’re back as usual on the 28th, when Richard Heslop, one of our Run Directors, will be running his 50th parkrun. Please consider volunteering, as we’d love a big crowd of hi-vis heroes to cheer him over the line. You can check out the available roles at https://www.parkrun.org.uk/prudhoeriverside/futureroster and get in touch to offer your services at prudhoeriverside@parkrun.com. Prudhoe Riverside parkrun 14th December 2019 Run Report

Team Chaos were reunited this morning, and...everything went really smoothly. Seriously, apart from the mild panic I had when I couldn’t find the mic for the PA system (Run Directors - please do NOT ‘hide’ the PA mic in the inside pocket of the carry-bag, some of us get flustered easier than others) and not being able to remember if the tourists we had were from Hertfordshire or Herefordshire (it was the latter, I think, pretty sure…) the whole morning flowed like a peaceful river.

The course had a little more debris than usual thanks to the wind, and there was a bit more clag around the back from the rain, but it was canny enough for ten new PB’s to be scored. We had eleven first timers, including our visitors from HEREFORDshire, and we hope you all had a cracking time and will come back and visit us again, you’re always welcome.

Of course, an event is only as successful as the people who help make it happen, so a HUGE shout out of thanks to my team this morning, and Happy Birthday to Timekeeper Howie, it just can’t happen without you lot:

Joanne LUCKING • Richard WEYMES • Jane MORTON • Paul RAFFERTY • Seamus KELLEHER • Oscar MITCHELL • Ben MITCHELL • Howard BUCKINGHAM • Steven BRADY • Lisa NAPIER • Haydn WEYMES • John GREEN • Sarah BECK • Marzena MARZEC • Simon ALLEN • Victoria LANCASTER • Simon HEAL • Sharon CARR • Gary MARTIN • Mark LANCASTER • Joseph GREEN

Want to see your name up there? Want to give something back to the parkrun community? Wonderful! Just check the roster here - https://www.parkrun.org.uk/prudhoeriverside/futureroster/ - and drop an email with your barcode number and prefered role to prudhoeriversidehelpders@parkrun.com. Nothing is too complicated and we’ll brief you on how everything works. You can also keep an eye on our facebook page and offer to volunteer there - https://www.facebook.com/prudhoeriversideparkrun/

Numbers still seem to be down a bit, and we get that Christmas is hurtling towards us, and the party season is in full swing, but you do not want to miss next week! Why? Well, it’s our Christmas special parkrun! Festive dress is heartily encouraged, hopefully there’ll be a plethora of Santas, Elves, Krampus, Yule Cats, and other seasonal costumes on the course. Uhm...I’ll probably not be there myself, as I’m a bit last minute with things this year. Who, knows, that might encourage you to turn up!

Right, that’s it for now, I’m going to get something to eat, give the flat a quick tidy, crack open a bottle of red, put A Muppets Christmas Carol on, and get the decorations up! Have a great weekend everyone! #dfybc

Prudhoe Riverside parkrun 7th December 2019 Run Report

Warmer climes than last week were about this morning, but the season must have many of you in its thrall. It thankfully didn’t stop ninety five of you from joining in with our monthly pacer week. And pacing is NOT easy, I was 35 minute pacer this week, and the theory of running seven minute kilometers is MUCH easier than in practice!
Anyway, nine of you scored new PB’s, including fellow pacer Billy Maitland, who was desperately trying to swap his bib at the start and just cruised around in his usual laid back style. Six of you took on our course for the first time, and we hope you come back soon for another go.
Billy and I were joined by these other hi-viz heroes, and the event just couldn’t go ahead without them:

Joanne LUCKING • Graham YATES • Richard WEYMES • Mel REED • Paul RAFFERTY • Ben MITCHELL • Jean CALLENDER • Peter MCMULLON • Jo PAGE • Richard HESLOP • Haydn WEYMES • Janine CALKIN • Claire DAVIES • Joanne EDWARDS • Billy MAITLAND • Marzena MARZEC • Victoria LANCASTER • Simon HEAL • Paul TAIT • Pam RAFFERTY • Sharon CARR • Frances FEWSTER • Robin BERKLEY

Want to give something really special this Christmas? Then volunteer! It gives a nice warm feeling inside. Just check the roster here - https://www.parkrun.org.uk/prudhoeriverside/futureroster/ - and drop an email to prudhoeriverside@parkrun.com with your barcode number and role preference. Nothing is too difficult and full training is given. Plus, I’M Run Director next week, so you just know it’ll be fun! Seriously though, we really do rely on volunteers, parkrun just can’t happen without them, they’re even more important than the runners. I mean, we love them too, but...y’know…
I’m going to sign off before I dig myself an even bigger hole. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Prudhoe Riverside parkrun 30 November 2019 Run Report

We thought the weather might scupper our parkrun this Saturday, as events around the north east fell victim to the plummeting temperatures, but we hit lucky. Our 147 parkrunners were greeted by some very crisp leaves underfoot, and a beautiful sunny morning. Layers were definitely the order of the day!

Unfortunately we weren’t so lucky with our scanning files, as one of them corrupted, meaning we were unable to access the results from it. RD Paul has decided to correct the results manually, rather than giving everyone a 59:59 result. I’m sure everyone will want to thank Paul for giving up his time to do this.

So, if you ran this Saturday and had your barcode scanned, but haven’t had a result email/text and please email prudhoeriverside@parkrun.com with your approximate time, full name and barcode number. If you know your finish position, even better! The deadline to email in is 9pm Monday, so please get in touch before then if you want to be in this week’s results.

Of those of you who made the first cut of the results, 15 were first timers and 17 recorded new Personal Bests. Well done all! We also welcomed representatives of 18 different clubs, and visitors from Conwy, N Wales. Thanks for turning out on such a brisk morning!

This week we had four milestone runs – congratulations go to Claire Philips and Stephen Briscoe who completed their 100th, and Robert Emson and Gael Phillips who completed their 50th parkruns this week.

Finally, our thanks, as always, to our fantastic volunteers for standing out in freezing temperatures cheering everyone over the line:

Joanne LUCKING • Mel REED • Jane MORTON • Paul RAFFERTY • Lesley HINDMARSH • Danny GILHOLME • Paul ROBINSON • Tony BROWN • Richard HESLOP • Karen WARD • Jennifer BURN • Billy MAITLAND • Anne JONES • Simon ALLEN • Louise ALLEN • Simon HEAL • Gillian TAIT • Paul TAIT • Robin BERKLEY

Prudhoe Riverside parkrun 23 November 2019 Run Report

As today’s Run Director, I’m (unofficially) declaring this morning the muddiest Prudhoe Riverside parkrun since our records began. The puddles on the main path were more akin to water jumps, and made for a challenging 5k for the 69 of you who ran, jogged and walked the course this morning. Nine of you were first timers at Prudhoe Riverside, including two who woke up this morning, looked at the weather and thought ‘Perfect conditions for my first ever parkrun!’

We don’t usually mention the names of those who get a PB, as there are usually too many of you, but today is an exception. Most of you settled for getting round without falling over, so congratulations go to Louise Allen, the only person to improve on a previous time! I’m sure normal service will resume next Saturday, assuming it’s stopped raining by then...

The event was made possible by 18 fantastic, volunteers who were in fine voice, despite the conditions. Our thanks go to:

Joanne LUCKING • Lalage BROWN • Richard WEYMES • Alison HABEBI • Mel REED • Jane MORTON • Paul RAFFERTY • Katharine RUSSELL • Donna MAUGHAN • Helen BOADEN • Richard HESLOP • Janine CALKIN • Rachael TURNBULL • Nicola MACLEAN • Simon ALLEN • Simon HEAL • Sharon CARR • Robin BERKLEY

New Years Day at Prudhoe Riverside

It's that time of year again. We have declared our festive parkruns.

As usual we are having Christmas Day off, however we will be on, on New Years Day for the 4th consecutive year.

This year we have had a chat with our closest neighbours again at Blackhill and Hexham who are both holding their runs at 09:00 giving you plenty of time to get to Prudhoe Riverside parkrun for 10:30am if you fancy the double.

Holly would be grateful for any volunteers. Get in early with your requests to prudhoeriverside@parkrun.com
