The Alexander Devine Santa Dash 25th November

The Alexander Devine Santa Dash is a novelty 5k fun run held through the centre of Windsor on Sunday 25th November. Dashers from across the county join us from all different age groups, abilities and backgrounds. Entry includes a free Santa suit or reindeer antlers, a souvenir medal and refreshments. We are hoping to paint Windsor town red, create a fun active community event for everyone, whilst also raising great funds and awareness for our local cause. Early bird booking offers are available until the end of October.

Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service was founded 11 years ago. Fiona and John Devine from Windsor set up this local charity, named after their son Alexander, who sadly died aged 8 from a rare brain tumour. During the four years that Alexander was ill they realised the desperate need for a local children’s hospice. Fiona and John wanted to improve the care and support for children with life limiting conditions in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and surrounding counties. Today Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service funds Alexander’s Nurses, who run a community service in the home providing respite, play therapy, palliative care and end of life care. As well as creating a care team the dream was always to build a local children’s hospice. With the fantastic support of the local community the charity has now realised this dream by building a wonderful dedicated purpose built children’s hospice near Maidenhead on donated land. The hospice opened for Day Care in June this year. The children’s hospice provides a wider range of services to families, offers them greater flexibility, choice, and ongoing respite support for the whole family (see finished build picture hereunder). Today we support over 115 local families and with your help we can reach many more.

Event #274 – the kids did good!

Last Saturday saw a junior volunteer takeover with many of the day's volunteers being under fact, some were under 10!

Here's a quick role call:-

Ruben CALUTAS was your Run Director. Not only did Ruben confidently deliver the run brief in front of more than 200 people, he also had prepared the night before by checking who might be running their 10th, 50th or 100th milestone runs so he could give them a shout out :-).

Then there were our glamorous timekeepers - Francesca BLACKWELL and Sophia MACKLIN who did a fantastic job counting each of you in as you crossed the finish line.

Ruben's younger brother Alexander CALUTAS performed a whopping three volunteer roles - helping with the run briefing, picking up the course signs after the run and tail running to make sure no adults got lost on their way round :-).

Toby MACKLIN was scanning your barcodes and Alexander CASWELL was there snapping pictures of you all in your parkrun glory.

Last but not least Daniel FERNANADEZ who was the youngest volunteer of the day at just 5 years old. Daniel brought his own hi viz jacket and started the run with a excited READY, STEADY, GOOOO!

Juniors, you were all fantastic. Thanks so much for helping and making us smile.

There were also some big kids helping out, but mostly learning how it should be done from the juniors :-) - thanks to Andrew LENAGHAN • Andy ATKINSON • Chris SMITH • Fergal DONNELLY • Keith ELLIS • Robert WALKER • Ruari RHODES • Sev KONIECZNY • Teresa CASWELL

RG Blue Sox Softball Team

RG Blue Sox are a friendly local softball team who play against other teams in the Thames Valley area. We are a mixed club (teams consist of 5 boys and 5 girls) and play at the Blue Coat School in Sonning Lane.

Softball is a very social and extremely fun recreational sport, similar to baseball but with a bigger ball (supposedly, easier to hit and catch!). The team encompasses all abilities – ranging from complete beginners to international standard – and aged from 16 to 60. Softball is an excellent choice for people who have not played team sports before or for a few years.
We are always looking for new recruits so if you fancy getting out and about this Spring/Summer then come along and give it a try! We run pre-season training on Sundays in March and then on Wednesday evenings from April until September – please contact us first to check times etc at or you can check out the website
