Green Belt Relay – runner required to join a team

The Green Belt Relay is a Stage Team Relay event that runs around the outskirts of London, from Hampton Court, out along the Thames then up and down the Chilterns, across Hertfordshire, through Epping Forest, down through Essex and Kent, and back along the North Downs over Box Hill to Hampton, each May. This year its on 20-21 May 2017, and runners do two legs, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. The legs range from 6-13 miles on minor roads, tracks and paths and involve a certain amount of navigation - so are quite a challenge. Each team also has to do some Marshalling along the way, so there is a good spirit of camaraderie amongst the 40 teams involved.

My club has been entering and enjoying the event for a few years, but it requires 11 runners, and we have had someone drop out, so there is a space available for an intrepid volunteer. Let me know if you would like more details at christkelly@yahoo.com.

London Cardiff 24

It's called London to Cardiff 24 and as the name suggests it's a relay run from London to Cardiff.

The team challenge is for 8-12 runners to relay run non-stop throughout the night covering 160 miles. Don't worry - the distances and pace are actually relatively easy. There are 10 stages less than 5 miles, 10 stages that are 5-10 miles and only 4 stages which are over 10 miles so you need a good mix of abilities from newbies to experienced runners. There is a 32 hour window with teams trying to beat the 24 hour clock. To hit 24 hours you need to average a 9 min/mile pace.

Festive Reading parkruns

We are planning to have both a Christmas Day and a New Year's Day Reading parkrun over the 2014/15 Christmas/New Year holiday period. The Chrstmas Day parkrun will begin at 9am and New Year's Day at 10:30.

We will be operating parkrun lite on both days i.e. there will not be any course markings and the volunteer team will be kept to a minimum. If anyone would like to volunteer for either day, or for any other Saturday parkrun please contact us at readingoffice@parkrun.com.

Endure24 teams

Here are our team listings for Endure24. I have tried to even the teams up in terms of ability. It really doesn't matter which teams we are in, as we will be camping together anyway.

Team 1

Adriana Collins, Anthony Collins, Jo Greenwood, Emma Jag, Ian Harvey, Sarah Pachonick, Robert Tan and Andrew Lenaghan.

Team 2

Robin Bertrand, Paul Caswell, Teresa Caswell, Peter Cook, Ricardo Garcia, David Lewis, Angela Liu and Jenny Oakley.

Reading parkrun on Christmas Day!

We will be holding a Christmas Day Reading parkrun this year at 09:00. Some of you may remember we held our Christmas Day parkrun at Woodley last year due to the flood down by the Thames. It was a great event, nonetheless, this year, we are very much looking forward to Reading parkrun at Thames Valley Park.

You will be welcome to dress up for the Christmas Day parkrun but the main celebration will be on the 21st when we ask that you wear Santa hats, jingle bells, Santa suits etc. all optional of course :-).

Longest parkrun 23rd June 2013

Hi all,

Tomorrow Reading parkrun is taking part in the Hampshire, Surrey & Berkshire longest parkrun. Started in 2010, the idea is simple - On the first Sunday on or after the longest day of the year, to visit as many parkruns as possible. But while the potential total distance is quite large (35km or 21.7 miles), this isn't a heavy duty running event, it is first and foremost a social day - there's no official timing, runners can turn up at as many (or as few) of the runs as they want, and do as much of the courses as they want. The running order is shown below:-

  1. Basingstoke 09:00
  2. Alice Holt 10:30
  3. Guildford 12:00
  4. Frimley Lodge 14:00
  5. Woodley 15:30
  6. Reading 17:00

The longest parkrun route for Reading has been amended due to a regatta which is also taking place tomorrow 23rd June. The course map is shown below:-

A car park is at our disposal because of regatta traffic. Please follow the green and white 5K parking signs to the Building 550 car park.

Hope to see you there!
