Celebrating International Women’s Day 2020! #IWD

International Women’s Day parkrun! Of the 544 finishers today 256 were women. Of the 30 core parkrun event volunteers today 21 were women. A big thank you to all!

Participation is central to our values and encouraging women of all backgrounds to overcome any reluctance to run, jog, walk or volunteer is important to us.

One moment to share is wishing one of our community a very happy birthday, her 80th to be precise! Jill undertook Newport’s Couch to 5k journey last year coached by a wonderful team of volunteers. Now she is one of that team, supporting our latest intake of people who didn’t believe they could run and who are now completing their 5k. Congratulations Jill, on your big birthday, on becoming a runner yourself and for helping others reach their own aspirations. You are truly inspirational and you reflect the essence of why, today, we celebrated.

Leap Year Event 162

We had a great turnout for Riverfront's first ever Leap Year Event. Well done to all the 365 runners who took part. Luckily the weather was kind to us after a wet and blustery start.

We had a number of tourists joining us this morning, from Frome and Monmouth plus a number of celebrations. We had Rose celebrating her 250th parkrun, wow! What an achievement. Mark celebrated his 50th and Kerry's gang turned out in full fancy dress to celebrate her 50th parkrun. WELL DONE TO YOU ALL!

A massive thank you to all the volunteers who continue to support parkrun every week, 30 people joined the hi viz team this morning to bring us our dose of parkrun magic.

41 first timers joined us today and 43 of you all had peeeeeeeeeeee beeeeeeee's.

Don't forget international Women's day next week where we hope you can bring your sisters, mothers, aunties, daughters to parkrun. Men are also very welcome of course.

Event 161 – 22nd February 2020

After the tribulations of Storm Dennis last Saturday, it was fantastic to welcome 445 participants back to the Riverfront. 68 were first timers and 70 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 33 different clubs took part. We had parkrunners from all over the globe including Helsinki

The event was made possible by 58 of the best volunteers available on the parkrun circuit. This list includes all the volunteers who are supporting the C25K. Thanks to everyone involved.

A date for your diary!

parkruns across the world are celebrating female participation by hosting a special event on 7th March, a day ahead of International Women's Day. We are hosting a special event on Saturday 7th March, where we hope to fill as much of our roster as possible with female volunteers, and apart from filling the roster, we also encourage as many participants as possible to be women and girls. Of course, this doesn't exclude any male participants from coming along on the day! As is always the case with parkrun, anyone is welcome to take part so please come along and help support this initiative, whether by volunteering or taking part.

On Tuesday 1st January 2019 parkrun at Riverfront starts at 10:30am. This enables all park runners to consider doing the double. The only time of the year that you can run/volunteer/register 2 parkrun's on your profile. The closest parkrun to us is Newport parkrun at Tredegar House which starts at 9am.

The Riverfront theatre will not be open on NYD however Hortons coffee shop just over the other side of the pedestrian bridge is open from 10am and they are extending a warm welcome to park runners post event. The Drago Lounge is also open from 10am which is situated on Friars Walk.

Car parking is available at Kingsway shopping centre, operating normal hours and the small pay and display car park is open next to the Riverfront theatre.

We look forward to welcoming back our home park runners, all our volunteers and visitors far and wide.

New Year’s Day parkrun 2019

Let’s make this your first New Years resolution of 2019

Join us at Riverfront parkrun for your first 5k of the year. Walk/jog/run with us and blow off those New Year’s Eve cobwebs. If you’re feeling ambitious why not join another local parkrun at 9am and then do the double with us at 10:30?

This is your one and only opportunity to get 2 published park runs on the same day in the calendar year.

If you aren’t able to join the 5k crowd why not join us as a hi viz hero and volunteer with us? Contact us via our Facebook page or by email at Riverfronthelpers@parkrun.com
