After a bit of a cold and drizzly week (how many of us switched on the heating?) Saturday saw perfect conditions for a run in the park: bright sunshine with a slight chill in the air. this might pose the question of what to wear. How many layers?
Although not down as an official volunteer this week, Thomas Core performed a marvellous role as a wardrobe valet, positioning himself at strategic positions on the route to collect garments which became surplus to requirements as his mum, Catherine, warmed up over the three laps of our course.
This week there were 201 runners today enjoying the lovely sunshine of whom 21 were first timers. There was a good crop of PBs, too: 57 in total. Well done to everyone!
Here are a few highlights:
In the first ten runners to cross the line David Penman achieved a second PB of the month in Roundhay, knocking 16 seconds off his previous time to achieve 18: 15. Rav Panesar shaved 10 seconds from his last time with a new PB of 18:32 and Alex Pagdin broke the 19 minute barrier this week with a new time of 18:56. Well done, chaps!
Alexandra Watson- Usher knocked a massive 45 seconds from her last PB and was the first woman to cross the line. The third female position went to Aileen Loftus with 31 seconds down from her previous PB with a new time of 23:50.
Sisters (I’m guessing) Ella and Martha MCCaffrey both achieved a PB this week. William MCCaffrey (Dad?) also got a PB of 21:22. A good week for them all.
Huge congratulations go to Robert Cutts on his 100th run; he will receive the coveted black tee shirt shortly. A junior club run shirt will go to Eleanor Currie on her 10th run and with the icing on the cake of a new PB to boot!
We had a cracking team of volunteers this week with Jane Ellis making her RD debut. As well as the vital roles of time keepers and scanners who record our results the marshals and pacers perform a brilliant job AND don’t forget Dave Weight who does the pre run set up of the course and clear up!
