March 15 # 151 Run Report

15th March, a bad day for Julius Caesar, stabbed by his senators, but a good day for Roundhay parkrun. Today was the day that the Roundhay Runners took over the organisation of the event. This meant that the club fielded the Run Director, timers, token scanners, marshals but, most importantly CAKE. Many thanks to all involved for a fantastic event.
Unusually for parkrun we had 12 pacers this week, all from Roundhay Runners, and wearing the new purchased bibs, freshly ironed by Graham Pawley;

The idea of having a pacer is to help others to achieve of their best, and this week we had 52 PBs out of the 257 runners.
The Currie family will have gone home with smiles as both dad, Iain, and daughter Eleanor, achieved PB s this week: 22:25 and 23:25 respectively. Well done you!
Freed from the stress of organisation for the week, it was great to see our regular volunteer coordinator smashing the 22 minute time this week with a new time of 21:57. Well done, Becky Fishburn!
Helen Copeland, a Roundhay parkrun regular achieved a second PB in a row with 28:03 and Victoria Spellacy with another March PB 26:53. Elizabeth Naylor, one of our previous Sweatshop prize winners, achieved a new time of 27:30 . Higher up in the finishing order, Thomas Gatehouse shaved 13 seconds from his previous best with 20:34, John Featherstone improved by 6 seconds to come in at 19:24, Richard Dovestone 19:28, Sean Fitzgerald broke 20 minutes this week with a new time of 19:56 and Paul Wheeler achieved 21: 01.

Although I did not witness the finish this week I do believe that the first finisher had not actually registered with parkrun and did not have a barcode! He/ she did not feature in the results though as he had the advantage of four legs rather than two. Look how well he was turned out, though with his coordinated neckerchief. (See our Facebook page for the photo )

From the two legged finishers, the first three males were:
1 Chris LYONS 17:57 SM35-39
2 David PENMAN 18:07 new PB well done!
3 Jonathan LANCASTER 18:17
The first three females were:
1 Rachel PILLING 20:22
3 Nicola GABBUTT 21:32

Congratulations to Holly Hudson on completing her 10th run and qualifying for the lovely white t shirt and to Claire Senior on her 50th run. Kat Munn and Jeremy Richardson, both on 98 runs this week will be getting the black t shirts over the next few weeks,
There is lots to look forward to over the coming weeks – a third birthday event on 26 April ( with cake and drinks in the evening) and a Mob run where local running clubs compete in a friendly way.
