The sun came out today but not before 324 of us walked, jogged or ran 5km around Roundhay Park.
Of those who came we had visitors from as far away as Australia, Cameroon, Ecuador, Durham, Brighton and even London(!); 9 were doing parkrun for the very first time and a further 31 came to Roundhay for the very first time.
Congratulations to Amelia Lomas who joins the parkrun 10 club, Rajesh Menon, Siobhan Atkinson and Kartik Menon who joined the 50 parkrun club, Chris Duley who joins the 100 parkrun club and Chris Leach who came up from Cambridge to run his 250th with us today. Well done to you all and the 55 who all registered PBs on this warm summers day.
We were informed that the very prestigious British Race Walking Grand Prix will be taking place in the park tomorrow should anyone wish to spectate or find out more about the walkers who can sometimes pass us as we're going up the hill!!
As ever, many thanks to Hannah - today's Race Director - and ALL of the volunteers who help to ensure that Roundhay (and all the other) parkrun(s) happen. If you would like to volunteer please check the rota and email in... if you'd like to volunteer but on a Sunday, our sister parkrun - Roundhay Juniors - are always on the lookout for volunteers for that event each week, get in touch with them here.
[On a more personal note, today was my birthday, as announced by Hannah during briefing, and I'd like to thank you all so very much for your kind words - especially as I was flagging toward the end!... it really means a lot and says a lot about what parkrun is. Dermot.]
