Roundhay parkrun #446 – 23rd November

unnamed

245 inspirational parkrunners braved the rain. It was wet and cold. The end.

Well not quite! Because there are a few people that deserve a special mention this week.

Our amazing runners were cheered, supported and clapped up the ‘Yorkshire flat’ hill by the Roundhay Runners as part of a parkrun takeover. We had pacers from 20 minutes up to 35 minutes today. Thanks to all the foxes, and all our other volunteers who gave up their Saturday morning in the aid of parkrun. You’re all fantastic and we hope you’ve dried out.

A huge congratulations to Maddy Weight on her 50th parkrun. She made the hill look easy this week! Another shout out goes to one of our regulars, John Irving who made his 100th parkrun today. Great work John, especially after enduring a 10 mile run yesterday.

Let’s also hear it for the 22 first timers who were made very welcome at the briefing conducted this week by Julie Oldfield. (It’s not always that wet – please come back again!)

Run Director Ann Chivers kept us all in check this week with a short briefing designed to get everyone underway as soon as possible, and then they were off!  Whilst barcode scanners Stu Sklinar and Deborah Quayle debated where the half way point was up the ‘hill’, our jovial joggers delivered some amazing performances on the course, including 20 PBs!

Oliver Roberts was the first to cross the line with a superb time of 18:44, closely followed by Katie Brown, and Matthew Brown. It has to be said that these guys and girl looked strong from the off!! Well done folks.

If you’ve never volunteered, or haven’t done so in a while, please get in touch to offer your services, and don’t forget that when you have done that 25 times you are entitled to claim a purple milestone T-shirt. If we all volunteer a few times a year it helps to spread the workload rather than relying on the same faces each week, and who knows, you might even enjoy it. There’s plenty of roles available… even writing the run report!

And finally the last shout out has to go to Clare Welling who you can’t have missed round the course. Clare paced 28 minutes in one of the best fox outfits we have ever seen, and must have soaked up a good few litres of water on route!

Have a great week folks and we’ll see you next Saturday for what we hope to be slightly drier conditions.
