Whatever your reason for going to parkrun, whichever one you decide to visit, you can be sure that you’ll be greeted with a warm welcome (true for us at Clapham Common this week - Ed). Having chatted to Nicki on my way from the car to Roundshaw HQ, we shared our thoughts on the inappropriately early advent of Advent, in an ever so slightly bah-humbug kind of way. Ultimately, this tangent lead to the discussion of the true meaning of Christmas, which deviated in my mind to the true spirit of parkrun. An event with humble beginnings, with only a handful of participants, to a global phenomenon, which embraces the community, including and encouraging everyone of all ages and abilities.
This week Roundshaw welcomed many tourists, one as far afield as Ayr in bonnie Scotland. First timers to our course included: Jonathan Hutchins, Michael Burt, Alastair McKenzie, Brian Almer, Joe Phillips, Martin Tyrell, Vijal Palmer and Jan Reynolds. We hope you enjoyed our course.
With conditions being fairly reasonable, dry with only a smattering of gloopy mud, sadly I was unable to blame my poor time on the weather. Indeed, some people managed to earn themselves a P.B. They were: Gareth Ambler, Kathleen Mooney, Zakery Hansen, Alex Walmsley, Ed Houlihan, Jamie Rose, Warren Miller, Chris Manders and Rahul Menon. Congratulations to all of you.
Last but by no means least, a big thank you to the high-vis heroes this week: David Alderson, Jack Byles, Stephen Hewett, Michael John Richard Higgins, Des Keogh, Mary Keogh, Harriet North, Samantha Purser, Ray Saunders, Andy Schendel. Toby Shearlock, Lindsey Tanner, Nicholas Tanner, Mick Turner and me, Tamsyn Down. Please do consider a volunteering role in the future, as any help is always warmly received.
So whether you succumb to the Christmas spirit early or start your Christmas shopping, have a good week. See you on Saturday- happy running.
