Does anyone know what happened to our direction sign number 3 (the first right turn after leaving the side of the lake)? It was carefully placed in position at 8.45, and by the time the first runner passed it, about 20 minutes later, it appeared to have been savaged, either by a wild animal or an unfriendly dog!!
Thankfully our 72 runners finished unscathed. - a slightly smaller field than normal, with many of our regulars saving themselves for Sunday’s Rushcliffe 10k. (The canny amongst you had worked out that fewer runners meant this was a good week to run and gain an advantage in the points table, and the even cannier had worked out that this was a good week to volunteer, thus earning 100 points and saving your legs for Sunday’s race).
It was a perfect morning for running, and definitely a day for youth – our 1st and 3rd finishers were both teenagers. Well done to Slyvain Couderc and Zachary Meakin (and to Ian Ellwood who split them in a tight finish.) Lisa Morris was the first finishing female in a new PB of 20.02 – I’m sure she’ll dip under the magic 20 minutes next time. Gina Vaughan and Katie Cook followed in Lisa. And 22 runners won their own race with PB’s. Congratulations to you all.
Our volunteers, once again, did a sterling job in getting the course ready for the 9am start, making sure runners kept to the right track, recording finishing times and positions, and (eventually) getting them all uploaded onto the website. Big thank you to John H, Rebecca, Will, Lisa, Andrea, Joe, John A, Rachel, Steve and Geoff. Special mentions go to Steve, who took the opportunity of a jog at the back of the field and collected the signs in at the same time, and to John A, who now holds the new record (not that we are a competitive lot at parkrun) for assembly of the parkrun flag, with a magnificent time of 3 minutes. (I feel a Top Gear style leaderboard may be necessary to keep track of this one).
