A very sunny chilly start to the day soon turned into positive spring like conditions with the park looking its majestic best.
93 parkrunners were present and were carefully monitored by a wonderful bunch of volunteers that were actually warm and not getting frost bite for once.
Steve LEEK had his second run out as run director and was assisted by Geoff and Andrew on Timers, Rachael and Ken as Marshalls, Kirsty and Jo on Registration, Kate on numbers and Zoe on Funnel Management. Thanks to you all.
A special thank you to Ken ALLEN who at the last minute stood in as one of our Marshalls and then did his cool down collecting in the signs and to Keith our Park Manager for placing out the signs prior to our arrival.
I was a little surprised when a very nice lady introduced herself as a photographer from the Evening Post and took several photos of the runners at the start hopefully bringing some very good publicity.
A poignant minutes silence was impeccably observed by all in honour of our running friends in Boston, USA who were tragically killed or seriously injured many with life altering injuries. How this certainly puts things into perspective.
First across the line was regular Rushcliffe stalwart John ANGELL in 18:33 closely followed by David ROWE in 18:47 a new PB and Matthew McFARLIN in 18:53 also a new PB.
First Lady was Gina VAUGHAN in 21:07, Second Lady was Rachel ANGELL in 22:25 and third Lady was Rebecca MACHIN in 23:49.
Of the 93 runners 11 were first timers and 36 PB’s were recorded.
As run director for the day one thing that was in evidence was the sheer enthusiasm amongst the runners as they chased the finish line to loud applause from each other and the volunteer team.
At the post coffee and biscuits back at the Education Centre Myself and Kirsty were met with some IT gremlins that required a phone call to London and a WiFi back at Kirsty’s. Thanks for that Kirsty I owe you a large beer at The Statford Haven. Sorry for the delay folks, I hope it was worth it!
Finally a thought for the day:
To all of you who thought your run was a bad one. No such thing. Some runs are just better than others!!
