Rutland Water parkrun – Event Number 145 – 6th October 2018

Well that was a very cold and wet parkrun event, and not many of us were prepared for it!! I for one, (as did other volunteers) thought it would be a good idea to wear jeans and soft shoes, which were considerably heavier to walk in by the end!! It is the first time we saw our numbers drop to a lower level compared to recent months, however, 190 of you still braved the weather.....and that rain came down hard and fast! 21 of you achieved personal bests, and 19 of you came along for the first time, well done to you all!!

Congratulations to Bethan SCAIFE and Ian PARKINSON who both achieved their 50 parkruns milestone and a massive well done to Mike CONNOR who achieved his 100th parkrun!!

Capture

Mark POPPLE was first over the line in a time of 17:20, followed by Harrison MILES in a time of 17:56, Samuel HUGHES was third over the line in a time of 18:08. Our first lady over the finish line was a first timer to Rutland Water, Michelle WILLCOCKS in a time of 18:37, coming 7th overall, and also achieved the highest age grade of the event of 79.68%! Well done to you all!!

Our volunteers are the reason parkrun goes ahead every week, and as the colder weather draws in, we need to try and keep our volunteer base up in numbers so we can spread the load over the weeks. If you are injured, resting for a run the next day, or know someone who is too anxious to take part in parkrun as a parkrunner, but would benefit from being involved - volunteering is a great way to get out, make a difference, and does wonders for your mental health and well-being. Volunteers are shown how to do a role on the morning, and are supported by the rest of the volunteer team, no special skills are required. Volunteers also get a free exit parking pass for Rutland Water the day they volunteer! If you can give a small amount of your time one Saturday morning, please email us at rutlandwaterhelpers@parkrun.com or check out our roster to see what role you may like to do, or a date you are free. Who wouldn't want to be part of this lovely lot!
