On a cold, clear and crisp Sunday morning we were joined by 28 runners for our third junior parkrun at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park. After the icy weather got in the way the previous week, we were delighted to be able to go ahead this week.
What was really positive was of those 28 runners, 12 joined us at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park for the first time and 5 had never run at a junior parkrun before. So that means in just three events we've had over 100 different runners join us at our new course and we've welcomed nearly 50 new young people who have never run a parkrun before!
As we all know parkrun is a run not a race but it was great to see our first two finishers (both experienced parkrunners) push each other to personal bests and then shake hands and congratulate each other on running so well. That's the spirit of parkrun but the spirit of junior parkrun is also the smiles, high fives and enjoyment amongst all the runners and of course the volunteers. We couldn't stage the event without volunteers so thank you to the 27 that joined us today to make it all possible. If you'd like to volunteer at future events then drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please also opt in on your parkrun profile page to receive volunteers updates directly from ourselves.
A little bit of advance warning as well (though Christmas isn't too far away) we've decided that we're going to hold an event on 29th December - the Sunday between Christmas and New Year. We're thinking that people might want to get some fresh air and get out and about during the holiday season. It will be 9am as usual with but with a special Christmas theme.
Before then we look forward to you joining us at next week's event.
