Run report by Norry Smith
Whilst enjoying a Vodka Martini (shaken, not stirred) I came across a mildly amusing thread, on the parkrun laughs page.
Have you done the curlywurly yet?
Of course I hadn’t. However, another weekender away? Uber tourism steak Number 29, cow-cowl at hand. What would Miss Moneypenny say? Just a wee drive down south, for a parkrun? You only live twice! Whilst checking the Filofax, a reminder noted, the Aston was in the garage for its annual service. So an alternative vehicle would need to be sourced. Luckily Q came up trumps, sourcing a vehicle from Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
Five hundred miles each way . . . For a parkrun! Utterly Bonkers! Lovely views on the way down, views to kill for you may say. Quick pit stop for Irn-bru and shortbread. How else shall I achieve a PB today? Hope the RD is open to bribery. (Ed note: he is!).
08:50 what crazy time of the morning is this? Bleary eyed and not fully aware, as my barcode is scooped up with the wind from its safe hiding place. With a stroke of barry brilliance. A backup barcode is uncovered from the backup shoes.
09:00 Ready, eddy, go! Offt, giz a minute neeber, I’m still trying to sort my self oot. Eventually I head off at the rate of a snail, who had been on the Vodka Martinis the previous night (honestly I hadn’t).
09:17 First lap completed. Did I wurly around the curly? How dizzy do I feel? Have I cut the course short? Oh no, Strava will name and shame me if I have. How will I be able show my face anywhere again? So many questions, no time for worrying about such minor issues. Keep plodding on!
09:23 Somewhere around the second loop I thank the marshalls again. Jinks, why do I feel drunk? Haven’t I seen that pylon before? Maybe this is all a dream? Have I dreamt of Careless Wispas? I’ll stay away from the Turkish Delight, as it gives me nightmares. Danny Norman's chocolate passage? Well, only Cadbury’s has the answer!
09:50 Find myself propped up against the car. Was it a dream? Had I ran around the most bonkers parkrun in the UK? More worryingly where was the parking ticket!!!!!! Aye, stuck in the pocket of my shorts!
Question . . . Have you done the curlywurly yet? Maybe aye, maybe nae. Well, if you’re looking for a unique parkrun and enjoy running around in circles. This is it!
