When I came down on Saturday morning to walk the course, the full moon was looking down casting a ghostly hue over the course. Happily any werewolves had disappeared to be replaced by the occasional deer. There is something quite nice about the pre run stillness, which is then replaced by the flurry of activity of the run, which in turn is followed by the post run stillness once everyone has left. A chance to unwind and reflect.
We escaped the rain and managed to stage only the second parkrun since the start of December. In my excitement and eagerness to get the 122 runners started I forgot to welcome our tourists and our milestone runners; in particular Gary Hughes taking part in his 200th parkrun and Hugh Burchard volunteering for the 25th time. Also a belated welcome to our tourists who included runners from Oxfordshire, Darlington, Winslow and South Wales. And in Veganuary, a healthy turn out of Vegan Runners too. The relatively slow times reflected the challenging nature of the course.
What else is there to say; a massive thank you as ever to all our volunteers but particularly Shelley, volunteering for the first time, and Isabella who turned up on the day and carried out the role of Number Checker in exemplary fashion. Without our volunteers our run would not happen, something which is always greatly appreciated by those who take part. It makes the role of run director so much easier knowing the quality and commitment of the people turning up to help out. If you have never volunteered then please give it a go. It could be the start of your progress to a purple volunteering shirt.
This week 122 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 30 were first timers and 11 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 19 different clubs took part.
