Welcome to the very first run report from Somerdale Pavilion parkrun.
Well what can I say?, what a morning and what a success!. Months of preparation and work all cumulated in a thoroughly enjoyable morning in which you all appeared to enjoy yourselves.
Our fears re car parking and masses turning up were quashed and aside from a few minor tweaks which were made and learnt from – I think it went very well. 187 of you turned up to run the inaugural course including the now infamous “Curly Wurly” – it's on Strava so has to be real….
Of the 187 “first timers” to Somerdale Pavilion – 20 were first timers to parkrun completely – I hope you will be back again soon for some more fun.
Our first finisher was Alex Parsons who set the course record at 17:38, our first female finisher was Fiona Blackmore with the female course record set at 21:51. Jon Goodland set our very first age grade record with a 79.98%.
This event could only have been put on with the help of the 25 volunteers we had John PEAKE • Matthew BRACE • Megan GRIMSHAW • Ian MUSSELL • Alyssa GRIMSHAW • Meryl GRIMSHAW • Tiernan GRIMSHAW • Debra PARSONS • Russell PARKER • Benjamin PARKER • Deborah WILLIAMS • Ian CONWAY • John VRUBLEVSKIS • Jolene BEREZA • Sue UPFIELD • Matthew WOOD • Joan GIBSON • Steve HERRING • Lynsey MILES • Julie CONWAY • Desmond CLEMENTS • Rosalyn CASTLE • Jane BEETON • Jennifer HERRING • Kevin BREWER
Whilst we had a healthy roster for the first week's run we are very short for the next few weeks – Please, if you can volunteer we would be most grateful – Check out the roster here and email firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help.
As mentioned during the run brief this event could not have been put on without the help of;
- Taylor Wimpey for allowing us to use their land
- Kevin Brewer and Shamcross for letting us use his course – hence the curly Wurly and other unique design.
- Aquaterra and Somerdale Pavilion for the use of their facilities.
- Our anonymous donor for providing the set up funds.
- Those running clubs who have helped us with set up providing volunteers and runners for the test event and future roster – Bitton Road Runners, Staple Hill Runners, Frys joggers and Emersons Green Running club.
- And of course the core team and ambassadors who have spent many months setting this up.
Some reminders for future weeks
Car parking is chargeable at .60p per hour
Please always park in the bottom car park by the football pitches, there are two ticket machines there for your use. If you think you are going to be a regular it might be worth taking out Social Membership of Somerdale Pavilion for £25 which will give you annual free parking
Please also note the route directions for getting to and from the course from the car park.
Please do not walk/run or warm up on any of the golf areas/pitches, there is plenty of room by the fence near the hut where we set up. A tarpaulin is provided weekly for you to put your bags on.
Well that's all for now - we hope to see many of you return next week where your Run Director will be Matt Wood.
