Oops! These things happen!

Dear runners,

Just a quick note, we have had a recent influx of people going the wrong way on the route despite having at least as many and in most instances more marshals out on the course than we did 12 months ago.

Maybe this is due to a recent increase in numbers (for this time of year, our numbers suggest that by summer we will be smashing our previous attendance record) and many new runners!

As a result we would like to remind you all that parkrunners MUST be responsible for themselves including knowing the course before they run.

There is no obligation for any parkrun event team to mark or marshal the course where there are no health or safety concerns.

Our marshal's are a bonus and we do generally provide plenty of them, but please exercise some self reliance and don't count on them being there!

Thanks a lot
South Manchester parkrun Events Team

Important: We NEED you!

 Dear runners,

Please do take this request seriously, this is not our usual volunteer request!

We hope you have all had a relaxing holiday period and are ready for a new year of parkrun!

In order to meet parkrun’s aim to provide a free 5km run every Saturday of the year South Manchester parkrun require a SEVERAL additional regular volunteers who can carry out tasks other than marshalling roles to join our core volunteering team.

We are asking the South Manchester parkrun community to step up to this task and help us to maintain this weekly event by offering to take on roles such as runner registration, timing, handing out position tokens, volunteer co-ordination and handling email enquiries etc. We are not asking you to give up all of your spare time, but to take on a little bit more responsibility for YOUR run by committing to volunteering at least once per month.

None of these roles are particularly complicated or daunting and training and support will be provided.

If you would like to help us or require more information please contact us at: southmanchesterhelpers@parkrun.com (or reply to this email).

Best Regards

Rob

Come Prepared for the Weather!

Dear Runners,

Just a quick note to say, as you will all have seen the weather today, come prepared tomorrow for a last minute decision on the safety of the route!

Whilst we have every intention of going ahead with tomorrows run (especially as it is the last South Manchester parkrun of 2011) we will have to survey the route as last week the park was very slippy (hopefully the park staff have gritted following last weeks surprise frost) and we wont know what the state of the park is until we get there in the morning and if its slippy or dangerous, we will again have to make a decision on the spot whether to go ahead or not.

Thanks for your cooperation :)

See you all tomorrow
Rob

5th November 2011

 Dear Runners,

As you may be aware, tomorrow is Bonfire night, so the park will be having a fireworks display, we have not had any confirmation from the park staff as to whether the setting up/aftermath will effect our run.

We have decided to go ahead with the run rather than cancel, however all runners should be prepared for the possibility of an alternative route or last minute cancellation should the route be unsafe.

Regards
Rob

Cancellation – 8th October 2011

Dear Runners,

Due to an event in the park this weekend that will impact on our route, we have taken the decision to cancel the event. Your nearest alternative parkruns include, Woodbank, Heaton parkrun and the new Wythenshaw parkrun.

Regards
Rob

Alternative route on 23rd July 2011

This weekend there will be a large event in Platt Fields park (http://www.manchestermela.co.uk/), this may affect the normal running of our parkrun, we will endeavor to use an alternative route should the event impact only part of our route, however if the event is very large or poses any health and safety hazards we may be forced to cancel.

We are currently waiting for a response from the park management before making any decisions on how to proceed.

If we are forced to cancel, we will post an announcement on this page, twitter and facebook, it is the responisbility of the runners to check these news feeds.

Kind Regards
Rob

Route back to normal!

Following the recent events in the park we are pleased to announce that we are now able to revert back to using our normal 5k route. Full details of the route can be found on this site. Click on the COURSE tab for further details.

South Manchester parkrun – 18th June 2011

Dear runners, the South Manchester parkrun will be going ahead as usual this weekend, 18th June. We are awaiting confirmation from the park wardens before confirming which course we will be operating. The choice of course depends on whether or not the park is cleared from the weekends concert in time for Saturday. Further updates will be posted during the week here and on our facebook group.
