Important Update – 11th June run cancelled

Dear runners, we have been advised by the park wardens that due to the concert on Satruday 11th June there will be a large number of vehicles and other park visitors using the footpaths within the park. As we would be using the alternative lap route this has the potential to create some serious safety issues. After consulting with the team we have decided that for reasons of safety there will be no run on the 11th June. The next run will be on 18th June.

A list of alternative runs in the North West can be found at: http://www.parkrun.com/events/uk/northwestengland

Run Free @ South Manchester parkrun

Our aim is to spread the word about what a fantastic initiative parkrun is and how it gets runners of all ages and abilities together at 9am every Saturday morning throughout the UK.

For the event we are encouraging everyone to dress up, bring some cakes and generally have a good time with your fellow runners.

The parkrun that embraces runfree the most (so we want to see lots of runners in fancy dress, cakes, biscuits, that extra bit of sparkle!) will receive a special prize –PARKRUN PLUS!! Two weeks after runfree we will invite Olympian Liz Yelling to start your event, provide product and medals for all your runners, a bag drop area, refreshments, photographer, pacers and much more!!

Change of Route

Dear Runners,

This Saturday (29th January 2011) there is due to be another event in the park. As a result the normal route will be impeded.  The volunteer team have discussed possible ways to approach this and have decided to offer an alternative route rather than cancel the run.

We have prepaired the alternative route in advance, however this may also be subject to last minute changes pending access to certain area's of the park on the morning of the run. As a result, we will not be able to guarentee a 5km distance.

In the past many runners have appreciated that the run has not been cancelled in such circumstances, whilst others have been unhappy about the alternative route distance and the subsequent times held against their names. Thus we are asking that any runner who is NOT happy with having a run recorded on the alternative route to simply take part in the run but to NOT run through the finishing funnel. Any runner who runs through the finishing tunnel will be credited with their run.

In this event and in general, do NOT run through the tunnel and then refuse to accept your finishing token, throw the token onto the registration desk without explination or leave with your number token (this has been happening quite frequently lately and causes much confusion). If you mistakenly pass through the tunnel you MUST queue for registration and inform the registration team that you have mistakenly run through the tunnel, your possition can be accounted for by an "unknown ATHLETE" allocation.

No post run alterations will be made to remove run records from runner accounts. We have offered post run edits on past occasions however this posed to be too time consuming due to the volume of emails and we can not offer this any more.

Also, please be aware that South Manchester parkrun will be going barcode only from the 5th February 2011. There will be no exceptions, so please request your barcode by following this link. Print your barcode and preferably laminate it so that it does not get damaged.

We thank you in advance for your help in achieving a smooth running event in light of the alterations, see you on saturday.

Best wishes,

South Manchester parkrun team

Race Results 6th November 2010

Dear Runners,

We would like to thank all of today’s runners for your patience and support at this morning's parkrun. We were informed at 8.58 that large sections would be out of bounds, prompting a last minute change of route. We hope that you enjoyed your run even with the last minute change.

As a result of this change of route and some unforeseen technical hiccups, this week’s times may not be as accurate as usual. As a result we appreciate that some runners may not want this week’s results logged against their achievement record, if this is the case let us know via the south Manchester parkrun’s email on our official website (www.parkrun.org.uk/southmanchester) and we will be happy to amend the record for you.

PLEASE INCLUDE IN YOUR EMAIL YOUR PREFERENCE OF EITHER:

A) REMOVE THIS WEEKS RESULT FROM MY RECORD (I.E. YOU WILL NOT BE CREDITED WITH YOUR RUN)

OR

B) MODIFY MY TIME TO COMPENSATE FOR THE SLIGHTLY SHORT ROUTE/TIMING ISSUES (I.E. YOU WILL BE CREDITED WITH YOUR ATTENDANCE AND YOUR TIME WILL NOT HAVE A MAJOR EFFECT ON YOUR RUN RECORD).

THIS WILL BE DONE BY ADJUSTING YOUR TIME TO MATCH YOUR AVERAGE RUN TIME AS CALCULATED FROM PREVIOUS RUNS. IF YOU ARE A 1ST TIME RUNNER THIS WILL BE DONE ON THE BASIS OF ADDING ~1 MINUTE TO YOUR RUN TIME.

As we expect many people will be emailing in with such requests, we ask that you please be patient in waiting for a response/edited results. Amendments will be made in batches, not individually, this is in order to make the process more efficient.

We would also like to say a big thank you to all the volunteers for their flexibility and hard work at getting the run off this morning. We will be back on our usual route next week, and with no more events planned in the park until next year we hope to have no more last minute changes.

See you all next Saturday!

Regards
Rob and the South Manchester parkrun team
