After last week’s second anniversary and International Women’s day parkrun event at there may have been a slight case of a hangover at the South Woodham Ferrers parkrun event (or maybe it was more a case of unpredictable wet weather and lots of mud on the course amongst other things).
Despite this a hardy group of 29 park runners braved the elements to complete the course. There were 4 first timers to the course and for 3 of them a first park run experience – we welcome Ben, William and Aidan to park run and hope that this will be the first of many runs both here and at other park runs. Also to our sole “tourist” Steve we hope you enjoyed our course and we will see you back soon.
We saw one PB achieved – Thomas took a huge one and a half minutes of his previous best which in challenging conditions was hugely impressive.
A huge thank you to our fantastic group of amazing volunteers – at one point it looked like we might have more volunteers than runners! Today 23 “high vis” warriors helped to make this event happen, and did so with huge smiles and encouragement for all the runners.
I know all the runners will join me in thanking for your support today – this week’s super stars were:
Clare ROWE • Jo BACKHOUSE • Paul BACKHOUSE • Helen HALL • Justin KENT • Mary BYE • Neil HOWARTH • Tracey WADE • Libby WADE • Stacey CARROLL • Daniel Gene HALL • Christopher WADE • Malcolm SMITH • Bob MASSEY • Luke ORCHARD • Ros LUCKMAN • David GAMLIN • Laurie HUGGINS • Matt LEE • Joe WARD • Patrick SUMNER • Ian MATHEWS • Sophie SMITH
As has been mentioned before please do consider offering to volunteer - there are a number of different roles and some also give you the opportunity to run as well as volunteer.
Finally a personal note from me – it is great to see so many family groups running (sometimes together but other times not so close...). For me I park run to (try and) keep fit but also to run with my sons – currently I have run with one 28 times and another 18 times and all of us together 17 times (yes, I worked it out..). Whilst this won’t be a record in any way it doesn’t take away from it being great to park run together. I would encourage you all to do the same although I know it is tough getting those teenagers out of bed on a Saturday morning!
Fingers crossed for next week and don’t forget pacer week is at the end of the month where hopefully there will loads of PB’s to get the bell ringing!
David (parkrunner and volunteer)
Please check our Volunteer Roster to see if you are
able to help out at anytime, there are plenty of roles available to do
