Run Report 226, 23 April 2016

Things may be quieter in the parkrun community this week but 402 of you made merry lapping the pond. Welcome to 45 newcomers. This is only the fifth time we have cracked 400 and it is the highest total for what I might call a non New-Year’s-Resolution run.

Spare a thought, and a whopping thank you, for our wonderful volunteers having to manage a field of that size. They were, in strict, first-name (friendly lot, are we not?) alphabetical order:

Amanda Jane DERRICK • Andrew VAN HEININGEN • Andy NORMILE • Ben SCOTT • Bernadette NEWBY • Catherine LEAHY • Christina SMITH • Errol MAGINLEY • Helen Janet HAWTHORNE • James LEAHY • Judy WILLITS • Ken JUDE • Liz ANDERSON • Mark Anthony TRAVERS • Martin MEDFORTH • Matthew HUNT • Max BARTHOLOMEW • Nicola DALE • Noran MCGOVERN • Olusola AKINOLA • Phyllida JONES • Richard SVED • Richard TOWNSEND • Susan PEARSON MCDONALD

Shiny new Badges for Michael Horsnell 50 and Sebastian Rowe 100, well run chaps!

Leading Women
Rachel FELTON (second overall) in 17:02 which was graded 88.06%. Rachel always leads our women, and almost all our men, home when she runs here, five times overall. Only Hannah Walker has run St Albans faster when she ran 15:55 which is a world’s best Female parkrun Time. Nobody is too fast or too slow for parkrun.
Wendy WALSH in 20:11 who has been first to finish on 12 previous occasions.
Tamsyn CLARK in 20:33.

Leading Men
Matt HANN in 16:35
Neil HUME in 17:10 (graded 80.10%)
Matt HAMILTON in 17:35.

And another fine graded performances from
Colin SINGLETON (VM60-64) 84.21%

The following Unknown runners completed the course.
Unknown, unknown, unknown, unknown, unknown (okay Edric: point made…Ed) …remember to bring your bar code and see your name in print.

It will get harder next time but you can do it. The chance to challenge yourself in a safe and friendly environment is one of parkrun’s many strengths.

Finally this week the spotlight falls on the three Septuagenarians who ran today.

David Redcastle, a first-timer,
Marie Savage, who started last year,
and Keith Cliverd who is a member of the 50 club.
It is never too late to start, and once you start you may as well go on.

Run Report 225 - Saturday 16 April 2016

On a cold drizzly day 375 runners utterly failed in a bid to wear out the paths in our lovely Verulamium Park. We shared the park with hundreds of other people. We spent at least £300 in Parking charges and goodness knows how much in the Inn on the Park and some other local places no doubt. We left within 90 minutes of the first arrivals and left the world a very slightly better place.parkrun: we are worth it!

Our Volunteers were:

Alice CLILVERD • Andrew VAN HEININGEN • Anne STILTON • Ben SCOTT • Brian BENSON • Caroline HUGHES • Clair DRAGE • Edric WILLIAMS • Gino GOLLUCCIO • Helen WILLIAMS • Isobel TODD • Joshua EDWARDS • Kate WEBB • Martin MEDFORTH • Matthew HUNT • Michele BESIO • Nicola DALE • Rhys ROWLANDS • Richard SVED • Samantha JIMENEZ • Sue EDWARDS • Tessa OSBORN • Wai Meng AU-YEONG

Many thanks from the runners!

Chris Barr and Matt Draper joined the 50 runs club today: well done both.

Female placings:
Helen CARTLIDGE in 19:59.
Jenny MADDOCKS in 20:31 - has been first to finish on 55 previous occasions.
Suzy HAWKINS in 21:04.

Male placings:
Craig HALSEY 16:46
Ben WINFIELD (JM11-14 amazing run well done Ben!) in 17:08.

Age Grade best scores:
Ben WINFIELD (JM11-14) was graded 82.78%.
Kemuel Dean SOLOMON (VM50-54) was graded 80.25%.
Craig HALSEY (VM35-39) was graded 79.62%).

And Personal Bests with congratulations for:

Unsung (until now) heroes

111 over the line Paul Collingwood
222 over the line Jon Stacey
333 over the line Amber Hatia-Khawaja (11-14)

Some stats:

Of the 53,195 runs amazingly 10,727 have been personal bests. That is more than one-in-five. I can only sit on my stool in wonder as I time you in. But with a total distance of 265,975 km we are way short of the moon which is 370,300 km away and will take us until about May 2017.

Run report – 26.03.2016

This week saw our run number 222. It started off reasonably enough but all those of us who have to pay for the car park: runners, taking over half an hour to run and our volunteers, got drenched and buffeted. There were 392 runners on such an awful day. We must get ready for 500 plus in the better weather. Keeping left will become even more vital then than it is now.

Fifty-two people came for the first time.

Race Director: Kate TETTMAR

Other Volunteers : Andrew VAN HEININGEN • Andy NORMILE • Bill HARDING • Colin SINGLETON • Diane HUNT • Duncan MELSOM • Edric WILLIAMS • Helen CARTLIDGE • Helen Janet HAWTHORNE • Isobel TODD • Jane TODD • Ken JUDE • Maggie EASTON • Matthew HUNT • Nicola DALE • Olusola AKINOLA • Richard SVED • Richard UNDERWOOD.

Many of these guys have volunteered on 50 or more occasions, some over a hundred. None are new Volunteers.

Male placings:
Matt HANN 17:01 Oliver POULAIN 17:23 An unknown runner was third so his bronze goes to Richard Smith in 17:31.

Don’t forget your barcode! Why not try any or all of the following: put one in your car glove compartment, cycle saddle-bag, fob pocket of shorts or track pants. Better still invest in a wristband or key ring. Anything is better than not appearing in the results especially if you can run 17 minutes 25.

Female placings:
Mairead O'ROURKE 18:50 Grace BIRDSEYE (JW15-17!) 20:16.
Wendy WALSH 20:27

Charlie BRACKEN (JM11-14!) was the only 80% plus runner this week at 80.14%. His 18:33 got him eighth place overall!

Milestones: Caroline Gillespie chose our run 222 run for her run 200; well done Caroline.

Well done to the new 10 club member Alex MUNRO and the three new 50 club Members Jo REID, Richard DEVEREUX, and Rob MILBURN

57 people recorded new Personal Bests and in such weather; well done to:

Steven Billingham, Emily Ketchin, Richard Smith, Mairead O’Rourke, Darren Matussa, Adam Birt, Lisa Laycock, Kate Mounsey, Matthew Penfold, Nathan Shelley, Frances Tongue, Carl Jones, Victoria Cook, Scott Thorogood, Grace Durham, Richard Evans, Zoe Makepeace, Freddie Laycock, Sue Rumble, Andrea Stannard, Ustane Mitchell-Payne, Paul Barron, Anthony Bennett, Caroline Saunders, Angela Connery, Daniel Parkes, Jack Billingham, Abigail Royal, Jake Evans, Michelle Ayres, Caitlin, Michael, Sophie Gage, Kim Jelfs, Anna Cox, Angela Jukes, Katrina Keverne, Katriona Towell, Anne-Marie Bullivant, Martin Zwijnenburg, Sapphire Hope, Juliet Voisey, Natalie Edwards, Katherine Butler, Nicholas Butler, Chris Jukes, Alexander Docwra, Liz Harding, Sam Walker, Stuart Bates, Ben Hallam, Stephen McKee, Simon Hunt, John Simmonds.

And most appropriately, on such a windy day, PB’s for the following high-flyers: Beatrice Kite, Megan Kite, George Kite, and Ruby Kite.

At St Albans Parkrun it actually is about the joggers who go round and round and round.

Run Report – February 20th 2016

On a cloudy but much milder day than recently, 360 runners lined up ready for another dash around the lake.

Run Director Christina reminded us all that parkrun is an accessible to all event, not a speed track race and requested that a polite excuse me when passing never goes amiss and also if being passed then keep to the left to allow faster runners a route through. We do want everyone to enjoy their parkrun young old, fast and slow… and the four legged friends too!

There were 40 first timers on this run, and also 66 PB’s! 32 Athletics clubs were represented.

As always to make the day happen and keep spirits up we need to give a big cheer to the volunteers who were: Adam Paul Pierce SMITH • Andrew VAN HEININGEN • Brian RANSLEY • Charlotte COTTLE • Christina SMITH • Ed DANNAN • Fiona ROWE • Gino GOLLUCCIO • Harry RANSLEY • Helen CARTLIDGE • Jenna PICKERING • Joaquin OREJAS • Lindsay OREJAS • Mark TAPLIN • Martin MEDFORTH • Matt COX • Mike BINNINGTON • Nathan SWEENEY • Nicola DALE • Noran MCGOVERN • Peter CRANE • Phil SZOMSZOR • Richard SVED • Richard TODD • Sascha BUTLER

Congratulations to Cyndy Cohen and Peter Brennecke for achieving their 50th parkrun and Edward Bagshaw and Harry Ransley for achieving their 10th parkrun!
