Event Cancelled – 28th June 2014

There will be no St Andrews parkrun on 28th June 2014 due to the Craigtoun Grand opening day being held that same day. They will be erecting stalls and the like within the finish area and the park will be very busy with delivery vehicles etc which would make it very difficult to ensure the safety of the runners.

Hopefully you will manage along to the opening day and support the fantastic work done by Friends of Craigtoun over the past few years.

Thanks

Gary

EVENT CANCELLED 29th JUNE 2013

Hi All

Unfortunately St Andrews parkrun is cancelled this Saturday 29th June due to the Grand Re-Opening of the park. Apologies for the short notice, please help spread the word if you can.

Opportunity to try out one of our sister events maybe...Edinburgh, Strathclyde, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness, Eglinton? See how tough those hills at Camperdown, Tollcross or Falkirk are? All in one day a la parkathon? Let us know how you get on!

Cheers

Jen

Cafe & Other Stuff

As I mentioned in the brief last week we've now wound up our lean-to cafe in the office - thank you for all the support of the past couple of months. We've got a good wee kitty together for our Anniversary event - so we better get thinking what to do!

It does mean that we'll be without toilet facilities for the next couple of weeks so please come prepared to run. We'll also have the big blue Ikea bag back at the start to ship your bits n bobs up to the finish line - but please try and limit what you leave.

The park will have its official Grand Opening on Friday 29th March and the Cafe should (fingers crossed) be opened from then! You can find out more about them here http://www.facebook.com/pages/Friends-of-Craigtoun-Park/385543834830285

Saturday 16th February results.

As i'm sure you have now all noticed we had issues with the results on Saturday, unfortunately all our times defaulted to 59.59.  It has never happened before (not to say it won't happen again one day) but as you all understand these things may happen.

Apologies from your parkrun team, just make sure you all come back next week. x

Event 19th January 2013 CANCELLED

The decision has been made to CANCEL tomorrow's St Andrews parkrun. Due to currently snowy conditions, the predicted freezing temperatures overnight and the fact that the roads close the park are already in a poor condition we see this as the only to ensure the safety of runners and volunteers alike. We hope to be back to usual by next week.

Please help spread the word to your fellow parkrunners!

Cheers

Jen

Fife AC event 2nd Jan

Please find below information on a forthcoming event from Brian Cruickshank.

Hi parkrunners,
I thought you might be interested in a friendly wee race we are organising. It’s great fun and everyone is welcome. Lots of random spot prizes to be given away! Hope to see you there.

Wednesday 2nd January 2013
Village Hall, Giffordtown
Starts at 12.00pm
Distance 4 x 1.5 mile (approx.)
Enter on the day - Adults £3 or £5 (Unattached). Entry is FREE for all kids!

Open to all ages and abilities – suitable for all the family. You can run as hard or as easy as you like. Runners to be paired according to ability with a tortoise (slower runner) and a hare (faster runner) in each team. We would prefer runners to arrange their own pairings where possible (subject to scrutiny – bandits beware!). We especially welcome male and female mixed pairs. If you don't have a partner you will be allocated one at registration.

The race consists of 4 laps of woodland trails and paths held entirely within Heatherhall Woods. Each team member will run 2 identical laps of approx 1.5 mile. Junior runners under 13 can take part as a team of four.

We will attempt to record split times but if they are important to you we suggest you record your own times.

Please try and arrive at the hall for 11.00am so that team numbers can be allocated before the race begins at 12.00pm.

Event #36

Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas, as restful or as active as required! Well done all for getting out the Saturday before Christmas and gettting your 5k in. Massive thanks to all the volunteers this week - Gwen, Stewart, John, Jim, Ian,Tony and Rhiannon and to everybody who came along and supported our impromptu cafe. We'll have the urn again this week, so hot drinks, treats and squash available for a wee donation. We'll use the cash we get to start an anniversary fund - our first anniversary is on the 20th of April and we'll have an event to honour the points winners for the year (and various other categories, suggestions welcome!).

It was pointed out that not everybody knows we have a Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/#!/StAndrewsparkrun and also a Twitter @StAndsparkrun. With the worst of winter still to come it's important that we all know where to check to make sure the run's still going ahead. If it's obvious by Friday afternoon/evening that the park is unsuitable for running on the Saturday morning we will post on the Facebook page, via Twitter and here on our News Page. If the conditions worsen overnight and it is decided that it's too dangerous for the run to go ahead we will post this to our Facebook page and via Twitter, so it's worthwhile checking the page or our feed before you leave on a Saturday morning (or if you're not on either, checking with someone who is). We'll always endeavour to hold the event and so will leave it as late as possible in the hope that conditions improve.

Anyway here's the stats from this week -

Event #31

The 31st St Andrews parkrun saw 48 hardy runners on a crisp, beautiful autumnal morning, attack the challenging, tree-lined,muddy section of the course with gusto, managing to keep both shoes on! As always it was great to see all the children taking part and judging by their happy faces at the finish line they are having fun and achieving success. We also had three Ten Club T-shirts to give out this month – well done to Anna Hedley, Jake Middleton and Zander Laesecke!

Hope the eight first-timers enjoyed the St Andrews parkrun experience and will be back for more!

Congratulations to Simon, Craig, Jon, Stuart, Shaun and Catherine who all achieved a new PB.

Thanks to all the hardy volunteers this weekend, especiallyto Denis Kealey who was a first-time volunteer on timer duty – no pressure! A big thank you to Jen who gave me lots of support and encouragement, especially with the computer skills back home for the Race Director Role!

Hope you all had a great run and enjoyed the parkrunexperience. We all wish Tony Martin a speedy recovery, as a niggle preventedhim from giving his usual all on Saturday.
