St Helens 1st ever parkrun took place on July 5th and was a huge success with 194 runners taking part. After 24 hours of persistent rain the sun came out and the newly tarmaced paths quickly dried up.
75 runners were taking part in their 1st ever parkrun.
22 runners had taken part in over 100 park runs including Eve Taylor who traveled up from Macclesfield to share her 100th run celebration with us.
We had 20 fantastic volunteers most of whom had never helped at a parkrun before but have already committed to future events,
The 194 runners included 8 juniors.
29 different clubs were represented during the run.
The first male to complete the course was Chris Green from Ashurst Bike Club in a time of 17.51. The first female was Rachel Fishwick from St Helens Striders in a time of 20.11. She then went on to repeat her success in the Merseyvend 5k just 30 minutes later after a quick dash over to Halewood. The first Junior to complete the course was Luke Gilbertson in a time of 25.21.
Tail Runner Ian Taylor completed the course in 38.18.
Runners traveled from all over the UK for the inaugural run with Swansea, Leeds, London and Chiltern all represented. Runners were quick to compliment the course, quality of the paths, friendliness of the volunteers and our post run Bistro where the two ladies from Age UK managed the masses superbly.
We had a few 1st time teething problems with the barcode scanners but soon established the knack of zooming in and out as well as shielding the tokens from the strong sunlight. The results processing was done in the Bistro and they were uploaded by 11.15am.
Several people took photos and videos of the run and these will be uploaded to Flickr and You Tube as soon as possible. http://www.parkrun.org.uk/sthelens/photos/
