EVENT 210 – 23rd December 2018

Swadlincote Juniors run report 23/12/18 – by Richard Hall

It was a cool 6 degrees; the skies had opened and to steal a quote from Sam the Run Director  "The Christmas Elves were out with their water pistols!" But this didn't stop our brave volunteers who all looked very festive today in their Santa outfits. Even braver were our young runners who stepped up to the starting line for another junior parkrun...

The 35 runners set off at a quick pace and didn't let the rain bother them at all, some of them appeared to be enjoying it. The two laps were soon over with the first boy home finishing in 8 mins 27 secs and first girl in 8 mins 48 secs. Good times in any conditions!

There were 3 first timers today starting their respective parkrun adventures, 4 had achieved over 100 runs each and 2 new PB's! Everyone was greeted with some chocolates at the finish for their well deserved efforts.

We always need volunteers , follow the links on the website for the opportunities and dates available. If you volunteer 25 times you become eligible for 'the purple t-shirt'. You may have wondered how to get hold of one of these and become the envy of all your friends ;-)

So, as we approach the end of the year let's say thank you to all our volunteers who make these events possible and a big round of applause for all our junior runners. Merry Christmas and keep on junior parkrunnin'.

All the best and have a great Christmas!

Richard Hall

Effie is amazing!

Effie,  one of our junior runners is fundraising for Meningitis Now, they are a charity who help families of those who have had Meningitis. Offering to provide free support to those who are likely to have to adapt to long term life changing effects they also fund research into this condition. Effie is taking part in the 50k in 50 day challenge, so far despite the heat the km's are being clocked up as planned. Brilliant! effieOn Sunday 29th July the hot weather broke and our event was very wet.  Effie had planned her cake sale and did not let the rain deter her! She raised and amazing £98 which Michael rounded up to £100 this week for her.

Swadlincote juniors Run report 13/5/2018 - Charlie Deakin-Jones

It was a bright but chilly morning for Swadlincote juniors 179th Run.

Before the event Sam gave some of our trainee Run Directors a quick briefing on how to set up the Finnish funnel and start line because its not there all week waiting for us you know!!!!!!! If you still want to be a run director please speak to Sam or Nic and they will be happy to talk to you about it.  Its an exciting time for our event bringing lots of familiar volunteer faces into the Run Director role, meaning we have lots more people to look after the children and the event every week. If Sam or Nic are ill or on holiday we don't have to cancel! Everyone will look great in the blue jacket I'm sure!

You, Our 101 runners joggers and walkers did really well today and 25 of you got PBs but you all did really really well. We welcomed 4 first timers today so please come along next time!  As it gets warmer remember to bring a drink with you.

4 wristbands were handed out today and 2 more were achieved today.  Dylan was super proud to have earnt his 50th run band he was on the bandstand ready and waiting to collect it.

Many thanks to our volunteers today which meant that the event could go ahead

See you next week and

Event 178 – 6th May 2018

Well the sun certainly shone for junior parkrun this weekend. 90 pairs of legs made their way around Maurice lee memorial park. Even in the heat an outstanding 30 new PB’s were set. Obviously you all wanted to get back to enjoy the sun. We welcomed another new 8 runners who were here for the first time. We hope you enjoyed it and will come back to see us again.

This morning we were warmed up by one of our juniors Charlie Deakin-Jones. He wrote and lead a zoo themed warm up which saw us enact out many various zoo animals. If anyone has any ideas for themes for warm ups then all suggestions can be looked into. Also if anyone else want to try writing one it goes towards you volunteer rolls.

We cannot run these events without the help of the wonderful volunteers so a big thank you to all those who helped out today. There are multiple different roles that are available and guidance is given to all. If you want to help out at future please email or fill in the form at the event for coming weeks. Once you have done 25 volunteering roles you are eligible for a purple volunteer t-shirt.

Today saw 2 runners collect wristbands and 3 runners today qualified to get theirs next week. You get a wristband for completing 11,21,&50 runs. Along side this you can print off a certificate from your parkrun account. A great thing to take in for show and tell and who knows you might inspire more runners to come and join us at future events.

The only rule we have at junior park run is no barcode no time so remember to bring it. The main thing is to have fun and enjoy yourselves.

See you same time next Sunday and remember DFYB(don’t forget your barcode).
