Temple Newsam junior parkrun is cancelled on 26 May 2019: Paths unusable due to another event in the park

A run around the field!

Temple Newsam junior parkrun #221 19.05.19

Hello everyone and welcome to the Temple Newsam junior parkrun weekly newsletter for event #221.

It was all change this morning as we ran our B course up on the field, due to next weekend’s Slam Dunk Festival being set up on our usual course. I know some of you weren’t too keen at the idea of running on the grass, but at least it wasn’t muddy and there were no hills to run up! It’s always good to have a change! Today 54 of you joined us to run 2 laps of the field and you all did really well.

We were delighted to welcome 7 first timers this morning: Ben Ebbs, Alfie Brook and Skyler Hoult, who were all running their first ever junior parkrun; and Victoria Harding, Alexander Harding, Kayleigh Harding and Benjamin Harding, who have run at a few different junior parkruns but were all running at Temple Newsam for the first time. We hope you all enjoyed your run and look forward to welcoming you back to Temple Newsam again soon, when maybe you can try out our usual route.

There were 13 fantastic PBs today: high fives for Louie Taylor, Rory King, Matthew Keeling, Anna Proctor, Charlie Clifford, Lennon Taylor, Abigail Sharp, Dylan Porter, Lincoln Goodwin, Cara Berry, Jakey Kelly, Frey Cherrett and Jessica Senior. We’ve seen a total of 2700 PBs now since our event started, that’s a lot of high fives and celebrations!

Today’s highest male age grade went to Archie Boyne with 67.69% and the highest female age grade was Francesca Ward with 67.88%.

Congratulations to Sam Ebbs who joined the Half Marathon Club this morning, well done to you! Don't forget that club wristbands are given out at parkrun while certificates can be found in your individual profile.

It’s 19th May today, so we’ll ‘shine the spotlight’ on our 19th place finisher this morning – Dylan Porter. Dylan has done 26 junior parkruns so he’s a member of the Marathon Club. He’s run 9 of them here at Temple Newsam since January this year, and before that he ran 17 times at Roundhay. I wonder which one he prefers! Dylan runs in the JM10 category and today he got a new PB of 11:40, meaning he’s now taken just over 4 minutes off his first time here at Temple Newsam, that’s amazing! Today he was the 14th boy to cross the finish line. Well done to you Dylan, and we hope you continue to do lots more junior parkruns with us here at Temple Newsam!

Thanks as always to all of our fantastic volunteers today: Ronnie BRAY, Zak BRITTON, Ella BROWN, Kate CRONSHAW, Edith GRAHAM, Paul GRAHAM, Jonathon HARDING, Michael HIGGINS, Amanda LENNON, Annette MCTAGGART, Brian MCTAGGART, Hannah MILLER, Maggie PRICE, Neil PRICE, Jane PRICE, Jonathan RUSSELL, Graham SHOOTER, Catherine WALLACE.

We’re always happy to welcome new volunteers so if you’d like to be a high-vis hero, please send us a message via our Facebook page or by email, or speak to someone in a high-vis vest, and we’ll happily welcome you on board.

That’s it for today. Please keep an eye on our website and our Facebook page where we’ll announce as soon as we can whether we are cancelled or running our B course next week on Sunday 26th May due to the Slam Dunk Festival. And remember that we are definitely cancelled on 2nd June as the Race for Life is being held at Temple Newsam. See you all soon!

It was a lovely calm morning in the park today, although a little bit chilly, but you quickly warmed up as 47 of you sped round our course! There were 21 boys and 26 girls this morning, and for once we had no ‘unknowns’ in the results! Well done for remembering to bring your barcodes.

Junior parkrunners become a member of the Half Marathon Club when they have completed 11 runs; after 21 runs they join the Marathon Club and when they’ve done 50 runs they can join the Ultra Marathon Club. The certificates and wristbands are a lovely memento and are great for sharing with your friends if you have a special achievement assembly at your school! You might even be able to encourage your friends to come and join us one week!

There’s no ‘shine the spotlight’ feature this week (our 5th place finisher this morning, Francesca Ward, has already been featured this year!) Hopefully it’ll be back next week!

It was the London Marathon today, and we had 58 superstar runners who took on our 2km course this morning. A marathon is 26.2 miles so that would be the same as running our event 21 times! I’m not sure I fancy running up our hill 42 times in a row!

We were delighted to welcome 1 first timer this morning: Clara Merriman, who was running her first ever junior parkrun. We hope you enjoyed your run and look forward to welcoming you back to Temple Newsam again soon. Easter bunny running

Hello everyone and welcome to the Temple Newsam junior parkrun weekly newsletter for event #217.

On a beautiful, bright, sunny morning, 42 runners joined us for some eggs-ercise at our egg-citing Easter Sunday junior parkrun, and it was lovely to see some bunny ears and carrot ears too! The Easter bunny must have paid a visit to Temple Newsam early this morning because there were chocolate eggs at the finish line for every eggs-hausted runner!

A big welcome to 8 egg-cellent first timers this morning: Madeleine O’Hearne, Florrie Low, Shane Ayeh, Molly Winter and Ruby Leafe, who were all running their first ever junior parkrun, and Oliver Cunnington, Poppy Knight and Amelia Knight, who were all running at Temple Newsam for the first time. We hope you all enjoyed your run and look forward to welcoming you back to Temple Newsam again soon.
