Temple Newsam parkrun report 9th September

Temple Newsam parkrun
Event number 237

It was a bit of a wet start this morning, but undaunted, 158 people turned up to run, jog and walk the course, with a few more being pushed around in buggies too.

This week we had 25 first timers and representatives from 16 different clubs. We also had some visitors from Brazil - please drop in again next time you are in the area!

Some important milestones this week. Former regular Richard Mann returned to his old stomping ground to celebrate his 250th. He was proudly sporting his own parkrun tattoo (presumably temporary, but who knows?) featuring the milestone vests. Great to see you again Richard (and Helen). We also had Stephen Milner and Sam Cussen donning the 50th parkrun vests.  Well done everyone!

A great turnout from the volunteers this week, 29 in all, co-ordinated by Andy Darby the RD for the day. The runners got plenty of enthusiastic encouragement from all the volunteers en route. Nice to see Sam's dog Harvey entering into the volunteering spirit too with a hi-viz jacket. Thanks for all your time and effort everyone. Special thanks to Gill and Ronnie who turn up week in week out, rain and shine and do a lot of work behind the scenes to keep the show on the road/pavement/muddy path.

Please consider volunteering yourself in the near future if you haven't done so recently. We really need your help. It's a great experience and there are roles to suit everyone. If anyone fancies a job share in the run report writing role there's a vacancy there too.

We had 25 runners with new PBs this week. Well done all of you. Some notables amongst these were John Holland, Liam Durkin, John Walsh and Graham Bowden who shaved considerable chunks off their previous bests.

Good luck to all runners embarking on half marathons tomorrow at the Vale of York and Great North Run.
