Bright baggy shorts, garish shirts, hula skirts, flip flops, sarongs, flowery lei garlands, sun-loungers, kiss-me-quick hats, swingball, buckets and spades, wetsuits, a unicorn water-ring and even a Boston terrier sized shark were all seen at Temple Newsam this Saturday.

To the sounds of The Beach Boys, The Surfaris, The Ventures and a bit of Chuck Berry it was time to hit the beach and party with Crossgates Harriers. Richard ‘WWWipe-Out’ Whitehouse was your rainbow hatted Captain and RD for the day and the Temple  Newsam weather fairy was on her best behaviour, providing sun and clear skies for the party. The Harriers provided plenty of volunteers and lashings of cake was laid on for the finishing runners and walkers as they crossed the line.

Michael Murphy, Crossgates Club Secretary said ‘...Thank you to everybody involved either as a volunteer or a runner you all made the beach party theme a great success. Congratulations to Gill Lambert from everyone at Crossgates Harriers on her 250th park run, that is a fantastic achievement.’

Everyone was clapped and cheered in. As the 130 runners and walkers came in the RD was giving high-5s from a surf-bench and was joined later by ‘Handkerchief Hatter’ Darby as the Bench Boys performing ‘Surfin TNP’.

The event was made possible by 34 volunteers:

John Paul STUTTARD • Michael MURPHY • Ronnie BRAY • Gillian HALL • Paul ADAMSON • Graham WILSON • Moira LENAGHAN • Richard WHITEHOUSE • Stuart WHITEHOUSE • Gillian LAMBERT • Chris ADAMSON • Lynn PARSONS • Ruby ELLIS • Chris MEADLEY • Julie WILSON • Reece DICKENS • Rachel MIDWOOD • Andy DARBY • Loz DARBY • Mr Sam CUSSEN • Lisa HESSEY • Claire MALTAS • Rob HARBOURNE • Suzanne HARBOURNE • Sue CRABTREE • Kyle HARBOURNE • Neil DIAMOND • Matty CAMPBELL • Hannah LONG • Stephen FLANAGAN • Kate HOLDEN • David I'ANSON • Kira CRABTREE • Joseph TUNSTALL

We at TN Run Report HQ would also like to thank Gill for her amazing service to parkrun over the years.  As well as managing 250 runs, she keeps the TN parkrun show on the road week in week out, maintaining her good humour even when injured and when volunteers are proving difficult to recruit. If you fancy making her job a bit easier why not have a go volunteering yourself. It's easy and fun with tasks to suit everyone.

Let's also not forget Neil Diamond who clocked up his 50th run today. Well done Neil!

Adam Parton knocked an impressive 40 seconds off his PB to come in at 20:20. Graham Hill, Mark Proctor and John Sutton also took decent chunks off their previous bests too. Well done all!

We really appreciate your consistent volunteering efforts come rain or shine  and hope to see you again soon. Without volunteers like Daniel we couldn't keep the parkrun running week after week, so please consider having a go yourself if you haven't recently. There be even be a mug in it for you at some point. Thanks to all the volunteers and special congratulations to Loz Darby for her 50th volunteering milestone.

Annette McTaggart ran an impressive new PB of 28:25, knocking 20 seconds off her previous effort. Diane Smith and Maria Diamond both took over a minute from their previous PBs and Sajid Ali a whopping 2 minutes! Well done all of you.

Please remember there is no parkrun this Saturday at Temple Newsam, but we will be back as normal the week after.

No pictures of runners this week but the rhododendrons were in full bloom in the rose garden and really worth a look. Perhaps the garden is best appreciated when relaxing like the ducks rather than when approaching the end of a gruelling run though!

Temple Newsam parkrun
Event number 268
21st April 2018

This week 164 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 25 were first timers. The warmer weather seemed to help speed people up with a whopping 31 runners recording new Personal Bests. Jonathan Sheppard bagged his first PB in 5 years, Sam Cussen and Dean Halligan both took over 10 seconds off theirs, Emma Wallace knocked over 30 seconds off her previous best and George Precious (JM11-14) took his PB to under 27 minutes. Well done runners!

Congratulations to Fabio D'Andrea, Ellie O'Donnell and Jennifer Parker who clocked up their 10th runs this week.

The event was made possible by 21 volunteers:

Martin HORBURY • Ronnie BRAY • Stuart GALL • Gillian LAMBERT • Kate CRONSHAW • Luke THOMAS • Joanne BURDEN • Daniel JOHNSON • Cath ANDREWS • Serena MELJAN • Mr Sam CUSSEN • Rob HARBOURNE • Stefan JENSEN • Daniel HORN • Sarah WHITEHOUSE • Kyle HARBOURNE • Lucy RUSSELL • Janet MUJTABA • Jonathan RUSSELL • David I'ANSON • Kai MCHALE

Thanks to everyone for helping the event run as smoothly as ever. We were struggling to find enough recruits up until the last minute this week. In fact a poor unwitting Sarah Whitehouse only came to watch and ended up being RD due to Ronnie's powers of persuasion! There's a job to suit everyone and the roster is looking rather sparse again this week so please consider helping out when you can.

Full results and a complete event history can be found on the Temple Newsam parkrun Results Page.

See you all next Saturday when I hope we are joined by some of the conquering heroes (and indeed record holders) from the London Marathon wearing their t-shirts with pride. I'm told Mo is busy though, sorry folks.

This week was a very special parkrun. Yes, we hit 5 years old and also celebrated Ronnie's 250th run. Well done Ronnie, it's been an eventful 5 years; thanks for starting everything off here and for all your hard work, time and dedication over the years to help keep the show running week in week out. It was great to see such a large turnout of faces, old and new, to say hi to Ronnie and celebrate the occasion, despite the rather testing weather conditions.

During these last 5 years we've seen 6,600 participants completing 40,779 parkruns covering a total distance of 203,895 km, and 6,868 new Personal Bests.

This week 236 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 26 were first timers and 38 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 22 different clubs took part, including a bumper turnout from Leeds and Bradford Triathlon Club, who probably felt like they'd also done a swim leg as well!

Let's not forget we also had milestone 50th runs from Graham Bowden and Claudja Coyne this week. Well done both of you!

We must give special thanks to the 26 volunteers who braved the freezing cold and rain to ensure everything ran smoothly on Route A:

Dave John WILLIAMSON • Paul DURKIN • Rhianna Kate ROSE • Ronnie BRAY • Judy LANKESTER • Gillian LAMBERT • Shaun LOFTUS • Andrew ELLIS • Emma RICHARDSON • Malcolm LAVERY • Stacey GOODYEAR • Alan WALSH • Marina DOBBS • Teresa GRANNER • Stephen MILNER • Andy DARBY • Richard ELLIS • David HUDSON • Loz DARBY • Mr Sam CUSSEN • Paula WATSON • Daniel HORN • Laura COYLE • Sarah WHITEHOUSE • Kyle HARBOURNE • Rosie WILLIAMS

There were some delightful baked goods on offer for runners by way of celebration. Can I thank the baker of the flapjacks which I particularly enjoyed!

Temple Newsam Parkrun Report 27th January

Temple Newsam parkrun
Event number 257
27th January 2018

A welcome return for Route A this week, albeit in cold and partly muddy conditions. In total 178 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 25 were first timers. Representatives of 16 different clubs took part.

This week 24 runners recorded new Personal Bests. Young George Precious (11-14) has been a regular at Temple Newsam over the last year or so and it was great to see his persistence paying off, knocking a few precious (sorry!) seconds off his previous best to come in at 28:24. Well done George, and keep up the good work! Annette McTaggart, obviously keen to stay in the headlines after her 50th run recently, took 40 seconds off her best to come in just under the 29 minute mark. Paul Wray inched a bit closer to the magic 20 minute mark, coming in second (behind Terry Midgley) with 20:07. Just behind in 3rd place, Stefan Jensen ran his 4th PB in succession (20:13). Well done everyone, some great running there!

Many thanks to the 20 volunteers who braved the cold and damp to help out and lift our flagging spirits this week:

Ronnie BRAY • Ronnie Sam BRAY • Helen FENTON • Claire WHITWELL • Stuart GALL • Moira LENAGHAN • Gillian LAMBERT • Bradley CLARKE • Alan WALSH • Ian MAUDSLEY • Andy DARBY • Loz DARBY • Mr Sam CUSSEN • Linda HSIAO HICK • Daniel HORN • Sarah WHITEHOUSE • Kyle HARBOURNE • Amy RUSSELL • Stephen FLANAGAN • Lucy RUSSELL

Ronnie was RD and reminded everyone of our impending 5th Birthday event this Saturday. He'll also be celebrating his 250th run. Ronnie started up the parkrun here and alongside Gill Lambert and Ronnie Jnr is integral to its ongoing success. Be sure to make it down to this one! Yes, there will be cake but any further baked donations will be gratefully received. We are also looking for a few more volunteers.
