This weeks run – nearly back on track!

Tomorrow we are running a slightly alternate route again but its very, very close to the original route! The staff at Temple Newsam have very kindly arranged a temporary by-pass around the section by the lake which is still undergoing the maintenance work. We have to emphasise our thanks to Steve and his team for their efforts in helping us out - its really not part of their job and we do thank them! Big thanks also has to go out to John Paul who has run the the route today to ensure its all good, and we will be doing an additional safety check in the morning. So the meeting place is back to our usual spot by the benches.

The route is as below and you'll note a couple of additional sections up towards the house, and round the bottom near our 4 km marker where we will be going on the new path.

Due to the new route we are in need of some additional marshals for tomorrow so ensure everyone gets round safely. If you are racing the following day or just fancy a break please come along a few minutes earlier, we'll give you a lovely bib for your troubles! Thanks in advance.

Don't ask what route lettering this is as we are now running out of letters!

See you all in the morning,

Route ‘B’ for this coming Saturday (15th Feb)

Hi All,

We have to inform you that this weekend due to the ongoing maintenance work we will have to move location to our original route B course. This is located on the field, so we will be meeting on the corner of the field above the stable block. We'll put the signs out and have the flag up and of course you'll see the yellow jackets:-

B course

We are sorry to have to relocate at such short notice, but its better than cancelling so if you could please spread the word!

Thanks everyone.

Birthday Bash!

This coming Saturday sees Temple Newsam parkrun turn one. We will be holding a special run at 9am. We are using an altered route due to maintenance works, so the event currently finishes right outside the house! It makes for a simply stunning location! Why not come and take advantage, run it whilst you can! After the run we will be holding a prize giving party with food and drink at the conference room within the stable block. There will be lots of cake and lots of laughs!

Tom Williams MD of parkrun UK is our guest of honour, and he will be handing out the trophies to all our prize winners. Nicola Forwood of the parkrun show is also a special guest and she is dishing out awards to our junior runners. Its sure to be a fun event and the best thing of all is you are all invited!

We hope to see you there to give each of you a warm welcome!

Course Correction for the morning.

Course Correction for event #51 18th January 2014

Hi all,

Just to let you know there is a course correction for tomorrow due to the ground staff at Temple Newsam doing some remedial work on the lake at the bottom of the hill. This means the lower path (turn right on second lap) is out of action.

As the bulk of the route is still in use, rather than use our alternative course on the grass we have devised a very similar route to normal. The finish will be in the same place and it will be a two lap course taking in the first hill twice (so two identical laps) with everyone running beyond the normal finish line, to the top of the hill, then turning left directly in front of the house to finish right outside the magnificent Temple Newsam house.

Here is a picture so you can see what we mean:-
CaptureHope to see you all there at normal time tomorrow for a lovely 5km run with a chance to finish within touching distance of one of England's finest country homes, come and take advantage of the opportunity!

Temple Newsam Ronnie Bray announced as PPOTY 2013!

Hot on the Heels of the BBC sports personality of the year being held in Leeds, it is with great pride and pleasure to announce that this year the UK male parkrun personality of the year for 2013 and has been announced by parkrun as our very own Ronnie 'Ronstar' Bray.
Ronnie Bray

Ronnie set up Temple Newsam parkrun in February this year, The organisation of parkrun organise free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in and run entirely by volunteers encouraging people of all ability's to take part. There are currently 343 events around the world, including 4 in Leeds. Thanks to Ronnie 5250 runs have now been completed around the 5km route set in the picturesque grounds of Temple Newsam, and around 120 people turn up every weekend.

Ronnie suffered a very serious heart attack in this Summer and was unconscious for several days. The messages he received from parkrunners across the globe were staggering and now he is well on his way to recovery, even starting to run the event again on a regular basis, inspiring others to join him.

Quite simply without Ronnie the growing community at Temple Newsam would not have met, made such great new friends, started relationships, and do things they thought they were incapable of and of course get fitter!

Ronnie says
"Its a huge thank you to everyone and I am buzzing for winning the parkrun personality of the year 2013, I Do really love everyone who gets up on a Saturday morning to come and run with us."

parkrun made the announcement on the weekly parkrun show podcast available here.

Ronnie Bray – for PPOTY2013!

The heart and soul of Temple Newsam parkrun is embodied in A169209 - Ronnie 'Ronstar' Bray. He perfectly sums up everything that is good about parkrun and his sheer enthusiasm seems to suck new runners and volunteers into our growing community, no-one is immune from it!
Quite simply without Ronnie the community would not have met, made such great new friends, start relationships, do things we thought we were incapable of, got fitter, and of course get huge hugs on a Saturday morning.

Earlier this year there was a very real possibility that we would have been without Ronnie following his heart attack, the messages of support he received from parkrunners across the globe was amazing. Even when he was on his hospital bed, Temple Newsam parkrun was still his main concern! Having him come back from the dead, I can think of no more a fitting nominee than Ronnie for the award of male parkrun personality of the year 2013. I know it would mean so much to him, even if he were just short listed.

Therefore the @parkrunshow now have TeamTN's nomination for #PPOTY2013.

Ronnie 'Ronstar' Bray
