There was a real sense of solidarity (oppose to rain) in the air at Tetbury’s 43rd parkrun this morning as we celebrated international women’s day and the graduation of the Tetbury Dolphins Couch 2 5k runners a great turn out today with 177 completing the course, 62 of which were first timers. The saturated main parkrun route is still being rested so the alternative route along the redundant railway line was used, the weather gods were on our side today and provided us with dry conditions for our out and back run. I’m pleased to say I didn’t witness any mud related slippages.
With this being my first parkrun I had no idea what to expect but can say that there is something quite warming about the friendly and welcoming atmosphere of parkrun. From new runners, experienced runners, little runners, runners with 4 legs, local runners and runners from far and wide there are so many words of encouragement and support from each other and from the 27 volunteers that were on hand today. I’m assuming Claire brings cakes every week?
A special thank you to those that made the couch 2 5K possible this year and congratulations to all of those who finished the programme. We all had our own personal reasons for wanting to take up the challenge and I for one have realised that the only person who was standing in my way for all these years was actually myself. I’m sure we all wanted to throw the towel in at some point and have had to drag ourselves out in some pretty wet conditions just to be able to say we completed our homework runs. But we did it!
30 different clubs were represented today and 45 people will have gone away feeling proud to have achieved a personal best.
