Thornbury parkrun is cancelled on 18 July 2020: COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Outreach Ambassador (Social Deprivation) Recruitment

We've had this note from the Parkrun head office about an upcoming role:

The parkrun Ambassador programme was created in 2013 as a national support network of highly engaged and dedicated volunteers who were keen to be involved with parkrun outside of the delivery of our weekly events.

We are looking to recruit an Outreach Ambassador to join a small team of volunteers throughout the UK to provide advice, support and expertise to parkrun on topics related to social deprivation. Outreach Ambassadors contribute to the work of parkrun UK's Health & Wellbeing Team and assist us in the delivery of the Sport England funded project which is focused on engaging lower socio-economic communities in parkrun events.

The role involves:
- Identifying opportunities to promote parkrun and junior parkrun amongst socially deprived communities in South West England
- Proactively building relationships with relevant individuals / organisations
- Supporting the work of parkrun staff and volunteers by sharing your experiences

The full role profile can be found here.

If you feel that you have the relevant skills and experience and you are interested in applying for this role, we'd love to hear from you.

The application form can be found here and the closing date for applications is 14 February 2020.

If you have any questions about the role, you can contact me.

Kind regards,

Rowan Ardhill
Health & Wellbeing Projects Manager

Thornbury Parkrun cancelled 11th January

We've had to cancel again this week due to too much water in places.

We'll keep looking to stage the Parkrun on a week by week basis, despite all the recent cancellations.

We've had a run of cancellations now over many weeks because of various parts of the course being too wet. Obviously we'll keep persevering and when the weather improves will be able to get Parkrunning again.

As you might imagine the Event and Run Directors have been considering options - though we've been limited to doing this by messages etc.. Any thoughts about options to increase the chances of more regular winter runs would be welcome. If you know any of the Event or Run Directors contact them directly or otherwise you could simply reply to one of the volunteer request emails.

Cancellation tomorrow, 26 Oct 2019

Sorry, everyone, but, once again, we have to cancel tomorrow's event.

The park has just been inspected and, along with the forecast for solid rain throughout this evening and tomorrow, the verdict is it will be too damaging to the ground to go ahead with the run. It is of paramount importance that we do not have a detrimental effect on the park in order to remain welcome there; no one wants to risk losing our event, I'm sure.

Enjoy a morning in, in the warm and dry, or go along to one of our neighbouring events.

Thornbury 5th October 2019

It was a beautiful day for it. No wind and no rain.

The Run Director forgot to tell everyone that they're welcome to come back to the White Swan on Thornbury High Street for a social coffee afterwards. Please spread the word.

There were just over 60 runners and the usual mix of sexes and ages. It was great to see everyone doing their thing. Plenty of volunteers too (if you ever want the pleasure and satisfaction of volunteering please do!)

Everyone did very well :)
