A wonderful turnout of 76 individuals forming 15 teams of quizzers got together at Tilgate Community Centre on Thursday night for the latest Tilgate parkrun quiz night. This was our 4th quiz night in our 4th different location (K2, Reds Bar, Tilgate Golf club preceding this venue). Each time we have a quiz we are encouraged by the turnout and need to find a bigger venue for the next one and that seems true again.
Before the quiz started, I had a wander around the teams and it was lovely to see some familiar as well as a number of new faces amongst the crowd, I wonder if we could be seeing some of these new faces at parkrun soon. It was also a pleasure to see some of the lovely Horsham parkrun team come along, representing their great event and showing true parkrun family spirit and giving us a chance to catch up.
Soon after arrival, the first task was to ensure we had enough tables and that everyone had a team. Some teams were already pre-arranged with many comments on facebook, but it was not long before everyone was allocated to a team and I am sure they took the opportunity of meeting and getting to know some other parkrunners and will be looking out for them come Saturday.
There were teams that came well prepared with food and drink, some more so than others with the 'Simple Minds' team bringing with them a full picnic, table cloth and candelabra (with candles too), there were other teams a little less organised but a quick visit to Dominos and their appetites were soon sated.
The quiz itself went swimmingly, there were 6 rounds of questions:
Round 1 was from 'History', Round 2 'Television', Round 3 was 'Pot luck', during the interval Round 4 was the 'Picture' round, Round 5 was 'Around the World' and we then finished off the evening with a round on 'Sport'.
The team 'PB pretty and brainy' were crowned winners, each receiving their own Easter egg, 'RIP chevron' were awarded runners up having to share 3 Easter eggs between 5, (not sure how they arranged that) and 'Cara's impressive nuts' were given their own Tilgate parkrun car stickers for having the best team name, we also awarded 'Spawn of Tilgate' their own stickers for doing a grand job of Tailrunning. The thought then of Tilgate parkrun car stickers being displayed proudly at Horsham parkrun did make us laugh. If you'd like your own Tilgate parkrun car sticker then please see one of the core team after parkrun, £1 donation goes straight back into the running of Tilgate parkrun.
We hope to do another quiz later in the year, probably late summer/early autumn - we'll let you know when, in the meantime have fun and happy parkrunning.
Thanks as always to our wonderful quiz master Paul and also to Nick and Julie for organising another successful Tilgate parkrun event.
