Event #214 – 30th December 2017

Today's run is sponsored by Peppa Pig and her muddy puddles !

This week 460 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 43 were first timers and 21 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 34 different clubs took part.

Thank you to the 34 volunteers who helped make our event possible:

And a BIG welcome to all the first time parkrunners who joined us - we hope you felt part of the parkrun family.

Don't forget to join us at 10:30 on New Year's day and if you're feeling extra energetic - Maidstone parkrun are having their New Year's day parkrun at 08:30 so you could do two in one day !

We hope you will come back next week and enjoy another run and be on your way to that exclusive milestone shirt - remember juniors need to run 10 times and adults need to run 50 times to claim their free milestone shirt.

Event #185 – 10th June 2017

What a beau-ti-ful day for a run !

Some would say a little too warm, but we were blessed with lovely sunny skies for the run on our alternative route today due to the football fiesta.
It so lovely to see lots of smiling faces waiting in anticipation for the start horn, and thank you to Anthony for our pre-run brief.
The wonderful thing about our alternative route if that when we reach the lake turn around point you get the chance to Hi-5 everyone as you pass on your way back around the lake - this makes for a lovely chance to see everyone who is running.

Thank you to Peter Horne and Keeley Hoad for photographing our event - photos of this mornings run can be viewed on our Flickr page.

Thank you to Peter Horne for the photo showing the wonderful volunteers setting up.

And I think Peter enjoyed the opportunity for a cool down in the pond to get this wonderful shot !

Event #180 – 6th May 2017

We hope you all enjoyed running back on our 'original' route - as we have been using the alternative route for the past two weeks.

There was a sea of happy, smiling faces listening to the run brief.
Then with about two minutes to go, it was lovely to see so many friends standing side-by-side, chatting about the run, looking forward with anticipation to what may come.

Thankfully the air remained cool as we ran around our lovely Barden lake and through the woods.

Thank you to everyone that shouted words of thanks to our wonderful marshals - without whom our event wouldn't happen - and thank you to everyone who runs alongside under eleven children, enabling them to run safely.

Thank you to Keeley Hoad for the wonderful photo - showing one of our runners reaching their fiftieth milestone run, a lovely dog enjoying the run and kids being encouraged.

We hope everyone enjoyed the alternative route for this mornings run - we shall be using the same route again this Saturday due to the football Jamboree taking place - a perfect chance for you to come back and see if you can beat last weeks time on the same route !

Our parkrun is such a wonderful occasion to meet up with friends each Saturday, swap stories about what happened during the week, find out how friends got on if they were taking part in a race, and for those coming to support, the chance to grab a coffee from our regular coffee man and his van - Jem.

Congratulations to those runners who took part in the London marathon - we hope you enjoyed the event and just think - running a marathon is the equivalent to running just over 8 parkruns !

Here are some of our regular Tonbridge parkrunners getting ready to run the London Marathon.

Event #177 – 15th April 2017

With a huge turnout this morning of 670 runners - anyone arriving before 8:40 am would be forgiven for thinking there were only about ten people running - for it would have seemed empty with just twenty minutes to go - but what a fantastic morning with Mums, Dads, Brothers, Sisters, Grandparents and Siblings all coming along to run 5k along our lovely parkrun route around Haysden Country park and Barden Lake.

It is with a BIG thank you to Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council that we have been supplied with our own dedicated Automated External Defibrillator.
We are continually looking at ways that we can improve the event both in terms of a runners experience but also their safety. As the event has grown our Emergency Operating Procedures have had to be refined and whilst our mantra continues to be to 'keep it simple' the extra level of cover that an AED offers is great news.

For everybody's information the AED will be kept under the scanning table in the first aid bag - just in case you are asked to retrieve it at any stage. It is also extremely easy to use.

The AED is not a 'magic bullet' - it is good at one thing but, we rely on first-aiders coming forward and wear the armbands whilst they run. Chances are you will never need to be called upon but it helps the marshals identify you should we ever need your help.

Obviously there were some issues with the funnels that we will will look into trying to improve for next week.
We are certain one of the funnels went out of sync so some of you in the middle of the pack will not have the correct time. We hold our hands up and can only say sorry. Unfortunately we cannot do much about it this week.
Thanks to everyone who helped and to all the runners for your patience.

We hope you enjoyed your run, and wish everyone a Happy Easter - don't eat too much chocolate, though if you do - come along next week and run it off :)

Event #176 – 8th April 2017

With the weather forecast predicting warm weather, you'd be forgiven for thinking it might be a warm run this morning, but thankfully the heat stayed away for us to finish our run, so hopefully there were no dehydration issues.

It was lovely to see so many people coming along for our lovely event around Barden lake - 527 runners, joggers and walkers - and fantastic to see so many smiling faces especially those 51 first timers and 147 who achieved a new Personal Best - we hope you will come back next week and have a go at beating your Personal Best :)

Good luck to all those racing tomorrow, especially those taking part in Brighton and Paris Marathons - stay hydrated, pace yourself and remember to wear sun-cream.

Event #154 – 12th November 2016

What a way to celebrate our 3rd anniversary - rain, rain and more rain !
This didn't dampen the spirits though, especially those who braved the elements in fancy dress, including our very own Run Director Anthony, wearing his fantastic Batman costume - we couldn't tell it was you !
Thank you to everyone that brought cake - we like cake - and to everyone that volunteered, cheered, clapped, ran, walked, helped out and made our Tonbridge parkrun 3 year anniversary one to remember.

And a big thank you to Peter Horne, who asked people to share their thoughts on what parkrun means to them, and he tirelessly put together a book with photos from the past year along with the comments and thoughts from everyone, and presented it to Anthony (our run director) for all his hard work and effort he puts in.

We were also thrilled to welcome Kelly Holmes again, who presented the annual award certificates and stayed around afterwards for many photos :)

Thank you everyone for making the past 3 years a memorable one - here's to another wonderful year of weekend parkruns.

Event #151 – 22nd October 2016

What a morning !
With near perfect running conditions - sun in the sky, a chill in the air - conditions any runner would choose if they had the choice.
There was a mix of smiling faces, nervous faces, happy faces and the more serious 'I will get a PB today face' :)
It was lovely to see so many children coming along with their parents, and our lovely 5k run through the woods and round Barden Lake is the perfect way for some parent-child bonding.
This week we welcomed 425 runners, of whom 39 were first timers and 89 recorded new Personal Bests - what a fantastic morning.
