Torbay Velopark parkrun
Event number 123
27th April 2019
I’m not good at decision making so early so it was a tough one - with several parkruns cancelled due to the bad weather do we play it safer and do three laps of the Velopark and the gravel path or do we use the whole field especially considering the fact we could have higher numbers at Torbay due to the other events being cancelled and a bit of a squash all doing 3 laps.
So a plan was hatched and inspections done of the Velopark, the field and the uphill flat section and all was good - 2 laps of the Velopark and the field it is then. We limited the amount of equipment we used due to the winds, I’m sure it wouldn’t take long for the fun and novelty to wear off to try and catch the windswept little cones.
It was great to welcome Amy and Lorraine from Deaf Get Active and Volunteer. We now have our course info, briefing info and upcoming event details on a noticeboard for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. In the next month or so we will be teaching our volunteers so BSL so we can always have a signed start for those who can’t hear the important GO signal. It isn’t possible to have someone every week to provide sign language support but we can do our bit to improve our inclusivity. Amy will be back in a few weeks to teach us a little bit and we have got some copies of the new booklet featuring parkrun specific sign language signs.
COMING SOON.......our new finish funnel...
