Town Moor junior parkrun, Sunday 22nd August 2021

Run Report.

Conditions were overcast but thankfully dry this morning as 70 junior runners, walkers and joggers attended the first Town Moor junior parkrun to take place since 15th March 2020, one year, five months and 6 days ago! Hopefully this record gap between events #177 and #178 is never even remotely close to being challenged again in the future!

22 juniors attended today for the first time, and for 9 of these superstars it was their first junior parkrun anywhere! Welcome all to the parkrun family and thank you for choosing Town Moor this morning!

An incredible 25 new PB’s were set, and that accounts for 36% of the total field, or 53% of those capable of achieving a PB when the 22 first timers (and 1 unknown) runners are taken out of the equation.) 4 Juniors from three different Running Clubs (Tyne Bridge Harriers, Elswick Harriers and South Shields Harriers) were represented today.

As we know, parkun is only made possible by the efforts and dedication of the core team and volunteers, so thank you on behalf of all of those who ran today to the following 31hi-viz heroes:

Adam WEARE • Alastair SPANNER • Anita HAWKINS • Annabel DEVENNIE • Catherine WEARE • David John DEVENNIE • Dawn ROXBURGH • Fiona MCGARGILL • George WEARE • Helen O'NEIL • Ian PARKER • Ian PICKETT • Isaac PICKETT • Jake PARKER • Kirsten HOWORTH • Kora HOWORTH • Louise PARKER • Muzlifah HANIFFA • Neil ALDERSON • Neil RUTHERFORD • Paul O'NEIL • Paul ROXBURGH • Ray WILKEY • Rose SMITH • Ross WATERSTON • Rupert WEARE • Sara DEVENNIE • Stephen SMITH • Tony WATERSTON • Victoria THOMAS • William DEVENNIE

Congratulations to this weeks milestone achievers.
Collecting wristbands earned in the final run pre-lockdown were: Aidan Ord and Niamh Macleod who earned their ‘Half Marathon’ wristbands (11 events) and Oliver Hawkes who became an ‘Ultra Marathon’ junior parkrunner (50 events).

Earning wristbands by finishing today were Sophia Bould and Jack Heron who can collect their ‘Marathon’ wristband (21 events) at our next run on the 5th September ) or back at their next ‘home’ junior parkrun for those that were ‘tourists’ today!

The first female finisher today was Abby Soppitt whose impressive finishing time of 10:46 was only 2 seconds shy of her existing Town Moor PB. Today’s first male finisher was Johan Hannifa who completed the course in a super speedy 7:24. This was Johan’s 9th consecutive ‘top 3’ finish at Town Moor junior parkrun and also his all time junior parkrun PB.

The female record is held by Ines Curran (Gateshead Harriers) who recorded a time of 7:02 on 9th April 2017 (event number 52).
The male record is held by Jake Dorman (Tyne Bridge Harriers) who recorded a time of 06:45 on 18th September 2016 (event number 25).
The Age Grade course record is held by Alex Lienard who recorded 82.56% (25:11) on 10th June 2018 (event number 98).

Today’s full results and a complete event history can be located on the Town Moor junior parkrun Results Page

Photo’s from today’s event can be found at the Town Moor junior parkrun page on Facebook

Our return to junior parkrun is set to be somewhat ‘stop-start’ over the next few weeks as we step aside on occasions where the park is being used for other events. Please make sure to check the facebook page/website ahead of time and why not consider some ‘parkrun tourism’ at other local events in Gateshead, Whitley Bay, Prudhoe and Chester le Street when we are not on?
