It was our 15th run this week and in that short time we have has extreme heat, extreme rain and this week, extreme wind - it is never easy to run in windy conditions so well done to everyone who turned out. Also to the volunteers who made sure the signs stood up and the scanned finish tokens were rescued.
The parkrun website can fill many spare moments (I lead a sheltered life) - looking at the cancellations page it seems that quite a few events were cancelled this week due to the wind, as well as other various issues including the dam at Whaley Bridge not allowing their junior parkrun to go ahead and in Roundhay in Leeds, an Ed Sheehan concert! Yes, cancel because of the dam but I am not sure an Ed Sheehan is a good enough reason to cancel - maybe they should have asked him to join in. The only activities that could affect us are the cows (unless Ed is coming to Buxted Park sometime?) and I note our resident farmer volunteer Tim was again present this week to make sure they behaved. Many thanks to Tim.
We had a good mix of participants this week - visiting tourists doing Uckfield for the first time but veterans of many other locations, as well as first timers to any parkrun event. There are various milestone T shirts that you may see people wearing - 50, 100, 250 and 500 as well as 10 for the under 17s. This week, 2 youngsters at the Uckfield parkrun became members of the "10 club" - well done William Hampshire and William Fowler. Parkrun has a process of informing you when you are eligible to claim a milestone and I can't believe it but each week around 1,600 people are eligible - it never ceases to amaze me how many people are part of parkrun. And as it wouldn't be possible without the volunteers (a number of events were included on the cancellation list due to insufficient volunteers), there is also a T shirt for volunteers who have helped 25 times. If you can, please look at the volunteer roster for the coming weeks and put your name down to help.
This week 124 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 31 were first timers and 32 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 15 different clubs took part.
