Uckfield parkrun Event number 16, 17th August 2019, by Deborah Dixon

Lots to report on this week, and all good! Perfect conditions (not wet or windy) and only a few areas of soft going underfoot (mud) as well as the odd cowpat, but farmer Tim was again marshalling to make sure his herd's peace and quiet wasn't too disrupted by the 194 runners and walkers who participated today. Thanks Tim.
We were visited by a group of parkrun tourists celebrating one of them completing 250 parkruns, all have taken place at a different venue including a fair few on abroad. (This is known as joining the Freyne Club named after the person who first reached this achievement). Home parkrun for this tourist is Bushy Park where it all began in October 2004 with 13 participants - the highest turnout for them is 2,011 on Christmas Day last year - I wouldn't have wanted to sort out the finish tokens for that one!

As the volunteers were completing close down at the end, we had a fly past by a formation of planes on their way to the Eastbourne air show, but presumably making sure their route passed over us.
In future reports I am aiming to include profiles for some of the walkers, runnners, racers and volunteers who come to Uckfield each Saturday. Everyone has their own story to tell about why they have become involved with parkrun and it will be interesting to share, so watch this space.
As I was on the home straight this week, not pacing myself and running too fast thinking about that elusive PB, I passed a young girl running by herself at a really steady pace. And able to pace herself better than me as if the route had been a bit further she would definitely have overtaken me. Nesta is 10 and has been coming to Uckfield regularly over the summer, as well as joining in with the Goudhurst junior Parkruns. And thanks, Nesta, for allowing me to include your photo in the report.

And to end with some useless parkrun info from around the country. Ed Sheehan has again managed to be the cause of a parkrun cancellation - this week in Ipswich. I hope he provides free tickets for the parkrun volunteers.
