What A Morning!
The joy of being a parkrun tourist is that every Saturday morning is very different to all of the others, and yet it is still the same. Still travelling to a new destination and still running 5k. However, today was one of those gorgeous mornings where everything seems perfect. I arrived a tad early (8am) which afforded me the opportunity to chat with some of the volunteers and give some very minor help in getting everything to the start/finish area.
And what wonderful volunteers they were too! Tony (Run Director for today) was absolutely lovely to chat to about all things parkrun, as were all of the other volunteers I managed to speak to during the morning. Have you ever wondered why so many parkrun tourists seem to turn up each week at Uckfield? Didn't you know that there are parkrun challenges to try to complete? One of the most popular is trying to complete the Alphabet (a parkrun beginning with each letter) and as there are only 3 parkruns in the UK beginning with a 'U', there are likely to be lots more tourists coming to Uckfield in the future.
At 8am, the grass was still pretty damp, I thought it was supposed to be scorching hot this weekend? Well, I spoke too soon and the sun came out in time for us to set off on our free, weekly, timed 5k. It's a challenging course, with lots of small undulations followed by THE HILL! Oh boy, did it feel like a hill by the time I got to it! Thankfully what goes up must come down and by the time we were finished, pretty much everyone was drenched in sweat (the perfect reward for coming to parkrun each Saturday).
I managed to get chatting to some other visitors to Uckfield today, a couple of tourists had set off at 4am and travelled down from Telford!!! We also had Dave Thomas, who is one of only 69 people in the entire world who has run 500 or more parkruns! That is quite an achievement!!!!!! Also Lizzie HUCKLE was completing her first parkrun whilst attending a nearby festival, well done Lizzie!!
I'd like to say a big thank you to all of the volunteers for running such a great event and ensuring it went smoothly and safely:
Ellie ANSTIS, Tosca ANSTIS, Mary BARNES, Roman BLUNDELL, Zoe BLUNDELL, Emma BUSSEY, Katerina CLARKE, Liberty CONSTABLE, Elisabeth DAWSON, Deborah DIXON, Michelle FORD, Sue GOODMAN, Sara GRACE, Roy GROOM, Andrew GUIRDHAM, Isabel GUIRDHAM, Cathie GUIRDHAM, James KILVINGTON, Amanda MARTIN, Amanda MARTIN, Hattie MARTIN, Tony MARTIN, Kathryn MARTYN, Mark PINNEY, Mark SHOTTON, David TURNER, Kathleen WILKES, Pete WILKES
Some of you may have noticed me with a GoPro on my head as I like to video all of my parkruns and put them on YouTube for other parkrunners, so please have a look and see if you can spot yourself. Some photos of the volunteers can be seen at the end of the video.

On to the stats....
This week we had 165 runners, joggers and walkers. Just 3 UNKNOWNSs (don't forget your barcode next week), 79 Females and 83 Males.
First 3 Males to finish were Matt EDMONDS in 18:40, Jim RISDALE in 19:01 and Alan SILVESTER in 19:22. First 3 Female finishers were Isabel GUIRDHAM in 19:35, Emma ROLLINGS in 22:53 and Darcy PRING in 25:11.
There were 66 parkrunners who were new to Uckfield parkrun of whom 10 were doing their first ever parkrun, and an amazing 39 PB's. So well done to everyone and we hope to see you back next week.
The "most runniest runner" was Dave THOMAS on 506 parkruns, but there were 5 members of the 250 Club, 23 members of the 100 Club, 21 members of the 50 Club and 6 members of the 10 Club present. The only official milestone achieved today was Miller GAGOLA who joined the 10 Club, great work!
The person who has run at Uckfield parkrun more often than anyone else is Sarah BISHOP who has run here at all 17 events. Well done Sarah, that's commitment!!
We now have two excellent parkrun podcasts available each week. "Free Weekly Timed" is the offical parkrun podcast with Vassos Alexander and Louise Ayling. We also have "With Me Now" with Danny Norman and Nicola Forwood which is an independent parkrun-based podcast (some of you may remember Danny and Nicola from the much loved "The parkrun Show"). I thoroughly recommend them both.
