Uckfield parkrun Event number 23, 5 October 2019, by Deborah Dixon

Another super Saturday at Uckfield parkrun, being International parkrun Day celebrating 15 years since it all started in Bushey Park. It was also an important match day for the England Rugby Team - live coverage in the bar this morning accompanied by bacon butties!
The first parkrun laid the way to (currently) around 2,000 events worldwide, with 10 new ones starting each week. That is a lot of people talking part and volunteering to help. For regular updates of parkrun worldwide, with fantastic photos and really inspiring stories, the Instagram parkrunuk is highly recommended.
The ethos for parkrun has been there right from the beginning. The first two and final two participants received prizes and the volunteers were all named in the report. So no expectations about finish times and the recognition that without the volunteers the run wouldn’t take place.
It’s also inspiring that the average time for completing a parkrun has reduced by over 10 minutes since the start, and has done so each year.
But this doesn’t mean that we should ignore the speedy ones - Congratulations to Jamie Bedwell for being first male finisher on his first ever parkrun ever, anywhere. You now have to keep this record up! And greetings to the contingent of runners from Crowborough Runners who visited Uckfield this morning on one of their parkrun tours.
And finally, many thanks to all of the volunteers who make this possible - please put your name down for future rosters and remember you can volunteer and take part.

This week 138 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 33 were first timers and 16 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 15 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 27 volunteers:

Kathleen SOUTHALL • Emma BUSSEY • Christopher LUGG • Samantha KEDWARDS • Cathie GUIRDHAM • Isabel GUIRDHAM • Zoe OSBORNE • Shelley JENKINS • Zoe BLUNDELL • Troy SOUTHALL • Deborah DIXON • Phoebe KEDWARDS • Tess KEDWARDS • Julia JONES • Jamie KEDDIE • Sara GRACE • Kathryn MARTYN • Tessa BROWN • Elisabeth DAWSON • Rowan DAWSON • Susan CRITCHLEY • Joseph ROBERTS • Dan ROBERTS • Stephen GREEN • Sue GOODMAN • Esme DAWSON • Helen BROWNE
