First Year of Firsts!

Thank you Graham for last week's amazing crossnumber puzzle. It helped remind me of some of last year's most memorable moments so this week's report is a list of 10 of my favourite "firsts".

1. First parkrun - On May the 4th 2019, 321 people decided to take part in the first Uckfield parkrun, with an appropriate Star Wars theme.

2. First women to come first - Isabel Guirdham came first on the 21st of September 2019 with an incredible time of exactly 19 minutes. Fantastic achievement Isabel!

3. First 500 parkrun milestone - On the 24th of August 2019, Dave Thomas ran his 500th parkrun at Uckfield (great job!)

4. First mentioned Birthday - In June of 2019, Chris Lugg had his 40th Birthday.

 5. First Christmas - We celebrated Uckfield parkrun’s first Christmas with festive outfits, delicious mince pies and some nice mulled apple juice.

6. First winter route - Our first winter route started between October and November 2019 but I am not really sure  ;-) It meant lots of mud but also some crisp, beautiful mornings.

7. First parkrun flood - Hopefully, our only flood occurred on the 21st of December. Although the start and part of the route was seriously flooded on the Friday afternoon, it had all gone by Saturday morning and the parkrun happened as normal.

8. First charity cake sale - On 29 February 2020, Laura and Becky made and sold lots of yummy cakes in aid of  Kelly's Trust, a local charity for sick children.

9. First run with Percy - Percy arrived at the swamp on the 1st of February 2020.

10. First time parkrun was cancelled due to lockdown - This happened on March 21st 2020 and is still continuing but we all have our hopes high for a return and remember it will not last forever.

Thank you for sharing my memories of last year. If anyone else would like to write about anything parkrun related, for example other parkruns you have done, what does parkrun mean to you, etc. please email uckfield@parkrun.com or post to the Facebook page.

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy and look forward to the return of parkrun :-)
