Event number 19

The windy weather did not deter the 137 people who ran, jogged and walked the course this morning.

We had 28 were first timers and representatives of 22 different clubs but really must applaud the 29 recorded new Personal Bests in those tough conditions.

A big shout out to Carol from JSM who ran her 100th parkrun and provided us with banana bread, shortbread and some amazing fudge after the run. Also good to meet some new faces to Inverurie, we look forward to welcoming you back in brighter conditions!

We had a first this morning in that Gordon volunteered as photographer although he did say he struggled to find many smiley, happy faces! We look forward to seeing the photos later!

Today was event number 19 and we are not sure when we will be able to hit that 20 button! Due to the current Coronavirus situation we continue to receive full guidance from HQ and will keep everyone updated on FB about our position going forward. Thank you to everyone for their understanding and support in this.

As quoted by Davie Black on parkrun Friends Scotland FB site we “Can't begin to emphasise the importance of the commitment our volunteers are making today as we face some very concerning times right across the world. Huge nod our yellow fellows one and all. “

Ury Riverside parkrun #14 with Storm Ciara

Ury Riverside parkrun

Event number 14

8th February 2020

Another fab morning at Ury Riverside this weekend  and  the weather reasonably kind although the stiff wind not quite the Storm Ciara anticipated. Good numbers again this week  - 232 people ran, jogged and  walked the course, of whom 64 were first timers and 77 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 23 different clubs took part.

Joining us this weekend were local parkrun Ambassadors Glen Chalmers and Steven Garden just  to make my third stint as RD even more nerve wracking ( only joking , Glen and Steven have been ace in helping us get established) .

It’s always a privilege to be Run Director but there are so many things to remember as you can see from the graphic Glen sent me after the run. This week I covered most of what I needed to in the briefing but forgot to ask about the milestones and to make  matters  worse I completely forgot my good friend Greig Cruickshank was running his 50th and indeed had put up a spot prize for 50th position (won by Bill Whitcombe). Thanks Greig !

Despite the conditions we had a new female course record set by Nicola Gauld in a time  of 18.31, second only to Tom Roche.

We didn’t  lose any tokens this week which is great but we still had a few runners  missing their barcodes (see graphic above )....(says he who has forgotten his twice

Cara HAY was RD for the first time and welcomed everyone with the following poem -

Once the was a plodder who volunteered on the side

She got asked to be RD at Ury Riverside

She welcomed the crowds, the tourists and first timers

To her home parkrun in which she takes pride

She reminded the doggies to keep owners quite near

1 owner per doggie – the rules are quite clear

Under 11’s – the same rules apply

Keep your adults in check and make sure they’re nearby

She told runners to respect all using the route

Keep to the right and nae messing aboot

Her last parting message is one which is clear

A big thank you to all who volunteer

So good luck and enjoy, from all at Ury Riverside

This RD will probably no longer get to hide

And when the run is over and done

Inverurie Garden Centre provides a warm welcome to everyone.

Reporter-on-the-Run Cynthia Fry’s view on our inaugural event

RUN REPORT:  "URYKA!"
Ury Riverside parkrun #1, November 2, 2019
URYKA!
"U" arrived on time!
And with a splash, to boot!
Mother Nature's liquid sunshine hadn't the slightest chance of short-circuiting this debut.  With a misty christening, Ury Riverside parkrun made quite a splash onto the parkrun scene!   Excitement was running high!   And not just amongst the high spirited volunteers.  The parkrunners were all abuzz, too!  Was it the prospect of being the first First Timers? The anticipation of adding a "U" to their parkrun alphabet?  Whatever it was, 196 parkrunners splashed their way through the puddles right into the Ury Riverside parkrun's history books.
U-R-Y...
Ury Riverside parkrun rocks!
Countless hours of planning, paperwork, & passion go into launching a new parkrun. A special thanks to all those volunteers who collaborated to bring Ury Riverside parkrun to fruition.  Event Director Laura Copeland & her core team should be proud as peacocks.  U-R-Y parkrun rocks!
TEAM SPIRIT
Any chill in the air was quickly chased off by the warm welcome from Run Director Paul Douglas & his merry band of volunteers.   The friendly ambiance was a delight & Paul's pre-parkrun briefing was ace.  Hearing how the seeds were sown to birth Ury Riverside parkrun was truly heartwarming & made for the perfect lead out before we set off on our 5k.
Thank-you to these fabulous volunteers for bringing their team spirit to Ury's 1st edition:
Allan CAMPBELL  •  Bruce STEWART  •  Cara HAY  •  Cynthia FRY  •  Gillian DOUGLAS  •  Graeme HAY  •  Hudson Parker AITKEN  •  Jessica DICKSON  •  Laura COPELAND  •  Malcolm SHENNAN  •  Melanie FLETCHER  •  Michael HOWDEN  •  Paul DOUGLAS  •  Rebecca FISHER  •  Ronnie MUTCH  •  Tom FARDON

Opportunity knocks!
For your chance to  jump into the volunteer pool, check out future openings at:
FIRST TIMERS
At an inaugural, all the parkrunners are dubbed "First Timers".  Many of our 196 First Timers were of the local persuasion, whilst others travelled from as far afield as Westhill, Hertfordshire & Perth, Australia!  Amongst those 196, 22 were embarking upon their very first parkrun.  One gal expressed how thrilled she was that her 1st parkrun coincided with Ury's 1st.  What a unique beginning for all our newly minted parkrunners!
We hope everyone enjoyed their experience at Ury Riverside parkrun's debut & will return soon.
And folks...always remember to bring your barcode so we can put your name up in lights in the results.
