Christmas 2018 and New Year’s Day 2019

If you fancy a bit of a challenge to start the New Year with, why not give the traditional Wanstead Flats and Valentines double parkrun a go?

Our friends at Wanstead Flats will be holding an additional event at 9 o'clock on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, and there will also be an additional event later on at Valentines, at 10 o'clock. Both events will count as an official parkrun, bringing you 2 closer to your next milestone T-shirt! If you fancy an extra challenge (and know the way!), you could even run between the two events as well!

We can't guarantee that the car parks within Valentines Park will be open on New Year's Day, so please factor that into your planning if you'll be driving.

Here's how the whole festive period is shaping up locally:

Saturday, December 22, 2018
Valentines parkrun is going ahead as usual, at 9 o'clock.

Christmas Day (Tuesday, December 25)
Barking parkrun (just down the road from us) will be holding an additional event at 9 o'clock. There will not be an event at Valentines.

Saturday, December 29
A normal day for us at Valentines, with the run starting at 9 o'clock

New Year's Day (Tuesday, January 1, 2019)
Wanstead Flats parkrun, starting at 9 o'clock.
Valentines parkrun, starting at 10 o'clock.

Saturday, January 5
Again, business as usual for us at Valentines, with the run starting at 9 o'clock.

parkrun during the Christmas holidays

Saturday, 24th December (Christmas Eve)
Valentines parkrun will be operating as normal. We're likely to be short of volunteers, though, so please do consider helping out!

Sunday, 25th December (Christmas Day)
Barking parkrun will be holding an additional event at 9 o'clock. Please note that none of the junior parkruns in east London will be going ahead.

Saturday, 31st December (New Year's Eve)
Valentines parkrun will be operating as normal.

Sunday, 1st January (New Year's Day)
The first day of 2017 offers a once-a-year opportunity for you to take part at two different parkruns on the same day! Wanstead Flats will start at 9 o'clock, and Valentines will be holding a special event starting at 10 o'clock. If you do want to take part at both events, please make sure that you will have sufficient time to travel safely between the two venues. #doublethefun

Important dates for your diary!

Here's what's going on in the world of parkrun over the Christmas and New Year holiday period:

19th December
We'll have a photographer at Valentines for the last parkrun before Christmas, so why not turn up in fancy dress?

25th December
Our friends down the road at Barking Park will be holding an extra parkrun at 9:30am on Christmas Day. Please note that Valentines Park will be closed.

26th December
As it's a Saturday, it'll be business as usual at Valentines parkrun on Boxing Day, with a 9 o'clock start.

1st January
New Year's Day is an extra-special day as it's the only day when it's possible to run at two different parkrun events! Our friends over at Wanstead Flats parkrun will be holding an event at 9 o'clock. At Valentines we'll be holding an event at 10 o'clock. The two events are close enough together to drive, cycle, or even run between the two, but please don't crazy! The car parks at Valentines Park will be closed, so please plan accordingly. We'll also be operating as "parkrun lite" so that means no directional arrows, and minimal equipment.

2nd January
This will be the first regular parkrun of the year, so it's back to a 9 o'clock start at Valentines.

If you're willing to help out at any of the above by volunteering, please let us know!

Christmas and New Year

As in previous years we will not be holding a parkrun on Christmas Day but will be holding an extra run on New Years Day with the later start time of 10 a.m.

For those of you with a need to work off the season's excesses or who wanted to get 2016s training off with a bang there is an opportunity to do 2 parkruns on New Years Day as Wanstead Flats will be hosting one starting at 9 a.m. Some people even manage to run or cycle between the two events.

If you need a parkrun fix on Christmas day our friends down the road at Barking parkrun will be holding a Christmas Day event.

We are currently planning on running as a normal Saturday on Boxing Day, subject to us having enough volunteers - watch this space for updates.
