“Mighty oaks from little acorns grow.” A very true statement when it comes to Wallace parkrun.
We started out 6 years ago today with 94 parkrun pioneers and 7 hi-vis heroes.
Today we average well over 200 finishers every single Saturday morning, with a willing army of volunteers on hand each week to make sure we get to do what we all love.
Today, event 290, was no different. Another great morning where we got to enjoy a little slice of community masquerading as a free weekly timed event.
As we said this morning, it’s testament to you all for turning up every week to either run, jog, walk or volunteer which makes Wallace parkrun the success it has become. Well done to us all, if we say so ourselves.
224 decided to join us today. It is surely no coincidence that we had enough baked goods to stock a small to medium sized bakery. We hope you all availed of our post-exertion treats.
A warm welcome to all 17 folk who were joining us for the first time, with visitors from Scarborough and Malahide.
On the milestone front congratulations to Catherine Gray who finished her 50th parkrun AND volunteered for the 25th time. Super work from Catherine.
Also crossing a parkrun finish line for the 50th time was Alan Chan and Clare O’Reilly, both of whom managed to escape our photographer. Well done Alan and Clare!
Two junior runners joined the white t-shirt club as they both ran their 10th parkrun today. Well done to William Dunlop and Nell Sinclair!
Finally, well done to one of our tourists from Malahide, Monica Flanagan, who decided to run her 300th parkrun with us this morning. Well done Monica!
A big hand also for all 37 of you who ran new PB times. You know who you are!
All the results are in the usual place: http://www.parkrun.org.uk/wallace/results/latestresults/
Fully aware that we sound like a broken record by now, we again are hugely grateful to our volunteers who made our parkrun happen today. Many hands do indeed make light work. We would again encourage you to give volunteering a go even once a year. Anyway, with all that in mind our thanks this week go to:
Run Director: Jonathan Davis.
Timekeepers: Nathan Howe and Jack Netherton.
Finish Token hander-outer: Fiona Mooney.
Funnel managers: Roseann Spence and Beverly Reid.
Barcode Scanners: Meadow Cinnamond, Laura Johnston and Katie McAuley.
Marshals: Andrew Moore, Gareth Moore, Paul Alister, Kathryn McLaughlin and Gary Patterson.
Tea/Coffee: Colin Ramsden, Sharon Ramsden, Brenda Harris and Rebekah Andrews.
Pre-event setup: Heather Patterson, Michael Harris, Alastair Dickson and David Wright.
Equipment storage and delivery: Catherine Gray.
Tail walker: Nuala McMorrow.
The best thing about parkrun is we get to do it all over again next week, and the week after that, and the week after that, and…you get the idea.
We’ll be in the park again next week. We hope you are too.
