We really didn't like cancelling, we missed you!
Well, what a week it's been, firstly a massive thank you to you all for your patience with us over the past week and half, it's been quite a time. We also hope you loved a bit of tourism elsewhere last week? We'd love to here about where you went to. We've had love sent to us from Margate, who sent it back with the Keeler family when they visited there last week.
Looking forward, we know 6 days is a long time in how a town works, but we hope for a clear course, but the problem does remain at the Walmer end of our course, so watch this space. The Food & Drink Festival is on next weekend at Deal Castle, but again, the shouldn't affect us, but don't forget to visit them a little later on.
Our Team for September.
As you know we are very rich in volunteers, they have been amazing since we started and continue to grow in numbers. Don't let that put you off volunteering though, it's a wonderful thing to do every now and then, it's incredibly rewarding.
Our Volunteer coordinator for September is Louise, she won't be dressed quite the same way as our wonderful Anthony, he may lend her his pink hi-vis though. Big thanks to Anthony for being August's VC, it's a tough job, but he got it done.
Email in so Louise can see when you are free to volunteer. https://www.parkrun.org.uk/walmeranddealseafront/volunteer/
There are jobs that can be done as well as running, pacing is a perfect one to get credit for both running and volunteering, we are missing pacers from the 30+ minutes, so give it a go.
Another way to volunteer and run is by downloading the Volunteer app onto your phone, then if you are one of our faster runners, maybe you could consider barcode scanning with your phone after you have run? We seem to have our longer queues around the 25-30 minute mark.
Our 1st birthday is soon approaching!
Saturday 21st September is when we are celebrating our 1st Birthday. We cannot wait to celebrate with everyone. If you'd like to bring cake to share on the day, we will be very happy. We are having a theme and after the past week, it now seems very fitting. Our theme is Carry On parkrunning. If you are familiar with the Carry On films, then we are sure you will think of a great costume to wear on the 21st. If you aren't familiar with them, then we suggest you have a chat to Mum, Dad, Nanny or Grandad for some ideas. We will, of course, not be a naughty as the old films, times have changed, but we will have a nod to our lovely Barbera Windsor with a warm up before the run. No bikinis to be warn please! Also, it's a timely reminder with Barbera in mind to thank one of our parkrun supporters Alzheimer's Research UK. So let's make it a fun morning!
We will of course celebrate by helping others and will be asking for donations for the Deal and Surrounding Areas Foodbank. We will collect on the 14th September and the 21st September. I will be in contact with them to find out what they are short of.
We've finally worked out how to add photos to the run report, so if you want to share any photos weekly, we can add then to the report, which is usually completed by the Monday after parkrun. Send them to our usual email please. 'Photographer' is also a volunteer role, so if you'd like to take photos of our runners, please email in and we can add you to the roster.
On a more serious note, if you don't want your photo or your children's photos put onto our social media, please let us know and we will do our best to not include you. You may have noticed that the Newspaper report this week about the cancellation made it look like we had spoken to them, they included a photo too but we haven't spoken to the media at all, they were copied from our run report. So it's very important that we know if you don't want to be included, come and talk to us.
Thank you for all your support and understanding this week, we love our parkrun family.
Have a fabulous week, we will see you Saturday!
Keep on running!
