Wetherby parkrun event 198 on July 27th 2019

STOP PRESS... August 10th will be Wetherby parkrun’s 200th event! To celebrate this major milestone, there will be cake and fruit after your run. As these will be entirely voluntarily provided, please donate (if you are able) home bakes or fruit and thank you in advance for supporting our special run.
48 hours prior to Saturday’s parkrun, witnessed the hottest ever recorded temperature in England, so it was a surprise for our volunteers to have to wear raincoats for the early morning deluge on the 27th! Barry, Nykie and Helen were true parkrun hero’s setting out the course in the driving rain. Thankfully it subsided for our run and surely anything was better than running in Thursday’s 30 degree plus heat...
It was a privilege to be hosts for the brand new parkrunners and we hope you return very soon. Our tourists came from Burton on Trent, Leicester and Surrey with tourist Simon Whillis kindly sorting our finish tokens (his local has in excess of 500 per week). Marshals Pauline, Bob and Sam all made a welcome return and congratulations to volunteers Teddy and Helen on their different but hilly half marathons last weekend.

Joseph led the field with his usual quiet but speedy determination and there was a family feel to Saturday’s smaller gathering with the Daveys, Bradburys, Balls, Lookers and Deborah plus family, all contributing to this community run. Next Saturday will continue the family focus as there is a ‘Foreman finish funnel’ with Mum Helen and son Alex (this week’s snappy photographer)both on scanning duties.
Perhaps this is the unique benefit of our wonderful Wetherby run; big enough to provide but small enough to recognise both individuals and families. If you are on your own, with a precious pooch or running alongside family or friends, you are always welcome at Wetherby. We look forward to seeing you (in your trainers) very soon.
