It was such a pleasure for me to be back at the friendly Wetherby parkrun after a few weeks absence and what a wonderful crowd of 163 runners we hosted today (not to mention several excited pooches).
A big ‘well done’ and a warm welcome to our brave first timers. Visitors came from Essex, London and Nottingham and the energetic Knaresborough Striders provided pace and enthusiasm in equal measure.
We sincerely hope both first timers and visitors return to us very soon.
Fiona Knapton ran her 100th parkrun aided by her dog (of course) and thank you for sharing your celebration milestone with us Fiona by providing chocolates. She ALMOST came in at position 100 on this, her epic 100th, but was too fast; a happy ‘problem’ for sure!
Old or young, fast or sedate, we enjoy the company of ALL our runners on Saturday mornings. It did seem though, that there was some very speedy footwork from our younger members today who were showing Mums and Dads just how to do this ‘running lark’. They ALL deserve a mention, but five year old Charlie Rogers in particular, did so well to complete his first ever full 5k. The children were amazing during the final few metres with some fabulous sprinting; inspirational for we ‘oldies’ and they even managed to smile!
Tom Wilson a Knaresborough strider was first through the finish funnel.
This reluctant canine stopped a few metres short of the finish and had to be carried over!
A big thank you as always, to our super crew of volunteers: Barry who helped set-up and took photographs, the D of E troupers, Vanessa, Bob, Helen, Trish and Nicky as marshals and Nicola as Tailwaker.
Kevin is your Run Director next week and watch this space, as on on a previous occasion he brought his ‘horse’ to Wetherby parkrun...
