Tesco Bags of Help scheme

We've got some exciting news to share with you all!

You may be aware that we've been trying to raise money to purchase an AED (defibrillator) which we'll have access to in case of an emergency.

What you might not be aware of is Tesco's "Bags of Help" scheme. The scheme uses money from the 5p carrier bag charges collected in their stores and donates it to local causes. They choose 3 causes that shoppers can vote on after any purchase.

We are thrilled to announce that our AED appeal has been selected to be one of the 3 causes that shoppers can vote on in the Widnes Tesco store during May and June. This will mean we should receive a minimum £1000 and we'll be finally able to purchase one!

Amazing news, I'm sure you'll agree!

We'll keep you updated with how we get on.

Widnes Core Team

Volunteer Run Director Recruitment

Afternoon Widnes parkrunners.

We are looking for some new members of our core team to act as Run Directors.

The Run Director is a crucial role in ensuring that we go ahead in a safe manner every Saturday morning so we are looking for a certain type of person to help us out.

We'd need someone who would be available to RD every 4-6 weeks (but isn't set intervals so there's flexibility there)

If you think you'd be interested (and just to note, interest doesn't mean you'll get the role), take a look at the wiki page http://wiki.parkrun.info/index.php/Run_Director and drop us a line at widnesoffice@parkrun.com

If you are interested and just want to know more then please email in and we'll arrange an informal chat.

New Year’s Eve and Day

There are two runs this weekend.

Saturday 31st December (NYE) - 9am as usual

Sunday 1st January (NYD) - Extra Event at 10:30am

You are allowed to run/volunteer at more than one event on NYD. Our friends at St Helens parkrun are staging an event at 9am - If you want to run at one, you may want to consider volunteering at the other

Cancellation

Unfortunately Weve just done our course inspection and we've had to CANCEL today's run due to an unsafe course.

Please share this post so as many see it as possible. See you all next week

This morning’s run

Morning all. We are going to be doing a course inspection shortly, and hope to have a decision by about 8.15/8.20 as to whether it will be safe to run this morning. Stay tuned.

Yesterday’s Results

Following our issues with the results yesterday, we'd like to thank everyone who emailed in to help us sort out the problems. We think we are now sorted and have tallied all the emails received to the updated results.

Please check the new results as we've had a few people in the original set of results disappear in the new set for some unknown reason, so please email into widnesoffice@parkrun.com if you have any issues with the new set.

We'd also like to thank Jo and the volunteers yesterday for making sure the event went ahead in pretty awful conditions and to Andy for giving up his Saturday evening to fix the results problems.

Today’s results

Well done to everyone who took part this morning, particularly to our wonderful volunteers who braved the cold conditions to make sure we went ahead.

We've had a few technical issues with the results, so if you had your barcode scanned and are down as Unknown please email into widnesoffice@parkrun.com

Our volunteer team will have a lot to work through so if we don't update them immediately, please don't worry we'll get onto it as soon as we can.

Christmas & New Year

Although we aren't at the point of the year where Witches, Wizards and Ghouls roam the streets of Widnes, we have declared our Christmas intentions already!

For those who are new to parkrun or don't pay much attention, you may not be aware that events are allowed to put on extra events on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. These events are not compulsory for events to run and last year we decided not to.

This year, however our wonderful volunteer team have decided that we WILL for the first time put on events on both Christmas Day and New Years Day.

Our Schedule for the Christmas period will be as follows:

- Saturday 24th December (Christmas Eve) - 9am as usual

- Sunday 25th December (Christmas Day) - Extra Event at 9am - You are only allowed to run one event on Xmas Day, even if you can make it to another on time

Saturday 31st December (NYE) - 9am as usual

Sunday 1st January (NYD) - Extra Event at 10:30am - You are allowed to run/volunteer at more than one event on NYD - this is only applicable on NYD - our friends at St Helens parkrun are staging an event at 9am - If you want to run at one, you may want to consider volunteering at the other

We need volunteers for all 4 of the events over the Xmas period so please volunteer if you are able to. Email us at the usual address widneshelpers@parkrun.com

Today’s Results

Well done to everyone who ran, walked and volunteered this morning.

Big shout to Agata, who completed her 50th parkrun this morning. Well done!

Results have been processed, however if your barcode didnt scan and we needed to add you in manually, it hasn't been done yet as some clever fool left the clipboard in the box at the park and went home... They'll be added in at some point over the weekend. (and he'll complete the punishment lines we've given him as well!)
