The (not) parkrun Initiative

A quick note to let you know about the *(not)parkrun* initiative starting very soon.

** Just to be clear from the start: This is NOT the restart of parkrun **

If like some of the core team, your running/walking/jogging adventure has slowed (or stopped) since lockdown, then *(not)parkrun* could be the perfect encouragement to get you back out there.

In short, you will be able to log a time for a 5k walk/jog/run that you've done at anytime during the week.

Importantly, this should not be on our usual parkrun course and should incorporate all the current guidelines for physical activity.

It works a bit like the parkrun ‘Freedom run’ – an opportunity for you to self-declare the date and time of a walk, jog or run and at the same time represent Winchester parkrun.

You can record up to one activity per day, with your fastest time each week included in a weekly results table.

Full details are here: https://blog.parkrun.com/uk/2020/06/10/notparkrun-is-here/

We'll be keeping you posted here as more details emerge. Do feel free to let us know if you have any questions.

Winchester parkrun #310 – Gratton Surgery Takeover

This week we continued the upward trend in attendance with 431 people running, jogging and walking the course, of whom 60 were first timers and 82 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 24 different clubs took part.

This week we had a takeover by the team from the Gratton Surgery in Sutton Scotney. It was lovely to have them join in and we really hope to see lots of them back again soon.

Supporting Trinity at Christmas Time

As mentioned on Saturday, Winchester parkrun is behind the 2018 Trinity Christmas Box Appeal. Trinity are a local charity putting in lots of hard work for local homeless people.

Have a look at the picture below to give you some ideas for donations. And no pressure - give as little or as much as you like.

And if you'll find it difficult to drop things off we're making it a lot easier for you. Bring your donations along to next week's parkrun (15th December) and we'll make sure they all get delivered to Trinity before the 19th December cut off date.

Yuletide Timetable

Hello all you lovely people.

Yuletide dates for your diary:

We will be running extra parkrun events at Winchester on Xmas day and on New Year's Day.

The wonderfully enthusiastic Tim will be Run Director on Xmas day. We’ll be starting at 9am. There may be a Secret Santa.

And on New Year's Day we'll be starting at 9am with an opportunity to do a second at either Southampton or Eastleigh which both start at 10:30am.

The parkrun Pavilion Cafe is Open

The Pavilion Cafe Makes a Welcome Return

Tomorrow is going to lovely weather for a parkrun followed by a cuppa and a chat with your fellow parkrunners.

So if you fancy a tea or a coffee then *bring a mug* and stay for a natter.

This was such a success last week that we really want to make it a habit. To do that we will need your support and generosity.

Things we will need on a weekly basis:

- milk (OK this week - thank you generous parkrunner)
- cofee (OK this week)
- tea (OK this week)
- hot chocolate (need)
- juice (need)
- fruit (need)
- cakes (need)
- teaspoons (need)

If you are happy to contribute something then bring it along. You can also let us know by sending a quick email to winchesteroffice@parkrun.com

Just to reiterate, you need to bring a mug as we a) dont fancy dong all the washing up and b) want to be as environmentally sound as possible.

Cancelling again

Hello again fellow parkrunners

I am sorry to say that we have taken the decision to cancel another parkrun.

We don't want to but our course is a mess and more rain is forecast.

So rather than wait we thought we'd give you as much notice as possible to make alternative arrangements.

Have a wonderful New Year's Eve and a healthy and prosperous 2018

All the best

The Winchester parkrun team

Yep, we’ve CANCELLED today – 30-12-17

Dear Fellow Parkrunners

We are cancelling the event this morning.

The course is a mess - puddles and mud everywhere. So in the interests of your safety and for the sake of the course we feel it is best to cancel.

Please consider a trip to another local event such as Basingstoke, Andover or Southampton.

All the best

The Winchester parkrun team
