Winchester parkrun #327 – 21st September 2019

Warm bright sunshine greeted the 457 parkrunners who attended Winchester parkrun today. The trees surrounding the playing fields are turning into a medley of autumnal colours. You can probably tell it is one of my favourite times of the year! It was my 100th parkrun today.

I set off in November 2014 not thinking I could ever finish 5k let alone anything further but I felt instantly heartened by parkrun being for all ages, shapes and sizes. parkrun (and running generally) has become a much treasured time to pause the rollercoaster of work and a young family. Even if I cannot stamp out my worries, a run will always bring some clarity and peace. Along the way I've made some great friends - I always look forward to running banter with Ianthe, Eleni and Christina who were with me today, Katy far away in the distance! 28 minutes flies by with friends.

So a big thank you to my husband who encouraged me to do that first parkrun nearly 5 years ago, and the volunteers without whom parkrun is not possible. The Clarendon Marathon is still on my bucket list but will have to wait while I get some more miles in my legs! Good luck to all those taking part and enjoy the stunning autumnal colours on 6th October.
