December 2013 – parkrun club roll of honour

Every month we celebrate members of the Leeds parkrun community who have gained entry into the prestigious parkrun 10, 50, 100 or 250 clubs.

For December 2013 we have a 5-a-side team worth of new '10' club members and an 11-a-side team worth of new '50' club members. (Excuse the tenuous football connection!) Between them these two teams have clocked up 3,000kms on their journey towards their parkrun club t-shirts. We'd also like to thank them for clocking up 55 separate volunteering shifts alongside their 600 parkruns as well.

Well done to:
New 50 club members:
Katherine Elizabeth PODESTA, Mark SMITH, Joe STOTT, Karen WILLCOCK, Rolf NEUGEBAUER, Andrew Michael CARLTON, Rachael JONES, Becki WHITELOCK-WAINWRIGHT, David BONES, Rory Anthony GOLDTHORPE and Terence THOMSON

New 10 club members:
Max STEAD, Jack DOWNHAM, James PRESTON, Elijah GATEWOOD and Rebecca FOSTER.

We'll give you all a shout out at the start of this Saturday's Leeds parkrun.

2. You'll receive an email telling you how to order your parkrun club t-shirt.
3. Delivery can take quite a while so please be patient while your order is dealt with.
4. Once your club t-shirt is received by the Leeds parkrun team you'll be included in the next monthly listing of new club members. Full details will be on the news page of our website and a link will go on our facebook page. We'll also email you as long as you've opted in to parkrun emails.
5. We announce new club members in the run briefing on the first Saturday of each month, but we'll only do this once we've received your club t-shirt so your 'shout out' might be several weeks after your qualifying parkrun.

7. If you have any queries about club t-shirts please email leedsOffice@parkrun.com

Christmas Day and New Year’s Day parkrun

parkrunday is always on a Saturday ... except when it is on a Wednesday!  Eh?

Yes, as per previous years the Leeds parkrun will again be running on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.  They will be parkrun-lite which means probably no km markers, no marked out funnel, no marshals on every corner etc., but they will be bona fide parkruns in all other respects.  In particular they'll count towards club t-shirts and earn you points in the points table.  Both these extra Leeds parkruns will start at the normal time of 9am.

Some other local parkruns may also be running Christmas and New Year's parkruns (check their news pages for details) and they might be starting later than 9am giving you the potential to clock up two parkruns in one day.  However, on Christmas Day you will not be able to register more than one run. On New Year's Day you will be allowed the option to register up to two runs maximum.

BUT - Please, please, please do not even consider running at two events unless you are absolutely sure you can safely travel between events with a comfortable safety margin and allowing for the possibility that road conditions might be difficult at that time of year.

Also keep in mind that, as with any other parkruns in the winter months, we might have to cancel the Christmas Day or New Year's day parkruns at short notice if we judge that weather conditions are not suitable for either runners or volunteers.

Event #311 14 September 2013

We reached a milestone this Saturday when Aamir Murtaza ran his 250th parkrun. He took advantage of the special shiny new finishing funnel for 250 Club members only and was applauded through by fellow finishers to receive his teeshirt from Tom Williams and Sam Dooley. Aamir also notched up a PB. Well, you would, wouldn't you?

Aamir's was one of 54 PBs from the 303 runners, including young Jamie Newell who smashed his PB by more than five minutes, a great effort after recovering from a broken foot.

See you next week when Hyde Park Harriers will be hosting the run.
